How the fuck to you get the lid off a jar?

take a spoon and tap it around the lid

I sometimes use a butter knife to get under the lid and just kind of pop it open like that. Works like a charm for salsa jars.

Whack the edge of the lid - not the glass! with the handle of a dinner knife a couple of times.

I whack the side of the lid with a butter knife in the direction that I want it to open.

As long as what is in the jar can stand it....run the hot water in the sink. Let it get really hot. Stick the metal lid under the hot water for about 30 seconds. The hot water will cause the metal to expand slightly. The lid will come off easier. This won't work for plastic lids.

Not on a sturdy butter knife. I can do it so there's no bending necessary.
