I have a bay window in my new house. There's no seat or anything underneath the windows, you can walk right up to the window.
It's two side windows and then a large middle window. I want to do curtains, but not sure how that works? Do people do two small curtain rods on the sides and then one longer one over the large window? Then do you just buy panels for the curtains?
I have an 11' front window. It's not a bay window but I bought one decorative curtain rod that stretched the whole length. I bought six curtain panels. I have one on each side and then 4 in the middle. For the middle ones, I have a rope (for lack of a better descriptor) that ties them off in twos. kind of like this but not as fancy and my window is smaller.

That's what I do. I honestly don't pull the panels closed unless the dog is being really annoying!! I find that the sheers do the trick but my house is higher up from the street than yours is from the look of your picture. You can always do blinds of some type (wood/venetian/roman, etc) on the windows and then still do the curtain panels.
