Hey moms,
A dear friend is having a baby (like in labor right now) in a small town in a midwestern state. I want to send something as a congratulations/thinking of you gift. My initial thought was meal delivery, but that's where the small town part comes in -- I googled and couldn't find anything except a couple pizza delivery places. This is a second baby, if that's relevant. And they aren't super "cutsey" people. What would you want in those first few days/weeks that could be reasonably shipped in the mail?
Do any of the grocery stores around her deliver? Or is she in a Fresh Direct delivery area? My standard gift for new mama friends these days is a big, old grocery store order of various snacks, ready-to-eat meals and, if the state allows it, some wine.
Someone sent me Jeni's ice cream & it was a gift from heaven.
Nature Box gift card.
Garrett's pop corn.
Brownies or cookies from Zingerman's.
I love ice cream idea. I went to Jeni's website, but I can't figure out how to order it online! I only can find the dry goods store, but not a "click to buy ice cream online" button. Any hints?

They had a listeria scare a while back, don't know if they stopped shipping ice cream for a while?
All kidding aside, you're a kind person for thinking of your friend. I'd love to receive any of the items mentioned in this thread but yeah, food is always the answer after a baby.
Food or A&A blankets or burpy bibs. I love those things. But I would personally love food. Levain bakery cookies are a special treat, but awesome.
I change my answer to this. All I wanted after DS was born was the chocolate peanut butter cookie from Levain.
I received a package this week from my NYC friend who sends them to me for special occasions. I was totally disappointed when it was just clothes for the baby.
I love those cookies. I ask for them every mother's day. I'm easy to please. The chocolate chocolate were my favorite this year, but chocolate peanut butter is right there.
Baked goods sent to the hospital is what I often do. I would see if there happens to be a Cookies by Design (yum!) nearby, and if not, go local with a nearby bakery with good online reviews.

Thank you guys, for all the replies. I'm now set for gifts for all kinds of occasions for years to come now! I've decided to go with the ice cream (it's hot here, so I think that's why I'm fixated on it).
It looks like Graeter's is from Ohio, which is where they are, so I dunno if that makes it a better choice cause it sounds like a local favorite, or if I should go with Ample Hill because it's from NY and thus less likely they've had it.

Just go with whoever has better pricing and delivery. Ice cream is good either way:)
