I may XP this, but wanted to ask the experts first. We just hired a new pet sitter for our 3 cats. They are 11 years old and have never had any medical issues (knock on wood). The new sitter wants a specific amount that we authorize her to spend in our absence if something were to happen to any of the cats. I was thinking $2000, to cover broken bones/emergency vet visit/any other emergency that needs to be addressed ASAP. Beyond that, given their age, we would want to be involved in the decision making process. I don't want them put under anesthesia without talking to the vet first. We will be on a cruise, so not immediately reachable, but it will never take more than a few hours for us to get a message (we will be able to check email periodically, but will have no phone service).
Am I in the right ballpark with 2K? Should I do more/less?

If that is what you feel comfortable spending. We have that we prefer a call. I forget how much we authorized. In truth I don't think we really have a max. We trust our vet, and would go with whatever they felt necessary in the event we couldn't be contact and it was truly an emergency that could not wait.

We have no-max pet insurance, so I wouldn't put a top limit on it. In your case, I would designate someone who is immediately reachable (like a parent or sibling) to discuss.
