This is what I posted right before TN died. AimeeDyan had asked whether to leave curtains and so I wanted to ask what you did with the ones left for you.

Ours didn't leave any.
I do have friends who left the seller's curtains up for a while, until they painted or got around to decorating - it's been a year and they still have some up.
I think if you don't want your curtains then it is nice to leave them so the new owners don't have to go out on move in day and buy something to put up so they can watch TV in private

They were awful polyester curtains in awful colors. (Burgundy in the green living room, pink lace in the kitchen, I don't recall the monstrosities in the other rooms..) So they got trashed.
The curtains our seller left behind all went to Goodwill. They were actually in good condition and not too dirty, but they didn't match anything we had.
The seller made all her curtains and they were very country. I did keep the ones in the laundry room though because they were the only ones that weren't horrid.

I wish ours had left something behind. When we first moved in we had to round up the few cheap blinds they did leave behind and try and rig them to fit on all of the important windows needing privacy. I wish I had thought at the time to just go to HD and buy some cheap blinds until we had a permanent solution, but instead we just lived with our rigged up blinds until we decided on window treatments.

The people who sold our only had curtains in the master bathroom. They were very frilly and dark green, and totally not our style. Plus, they were in the bathroom, lol. They were one of the first things to go.
Yuck. The curtains from the previous owner were straight out of the 70's and smelled.
When my neighbors sold their house they took the living room curtains with them (they thought they could keep them) and the buyers got pissed and demanded them be brought back. They were $15 per panel cheap-os from Target, and there were only 2 of them. I thought that was a little odd.

The only thing I have kept (so far) are some wooden blinds on some of the windows. All the vinyl ones are gone and I plan on changing everything when we change the windows out.
We just sold our house and had to leave the curtains. I can't imagine the buyer is going to keep them. When we bought it 10 years ago, curtains were the first to go.
I left all of mine and when I went to see the house last month (I was in the neighborhood, they saw me and asked me in) it was still all there...which was both nice and sad at the same time.
I kept the IKEA roman shades for a while until I could afford to put up treatments I wanted. They are all gone now though. The curtains came down immediately and went to the yard sale/Goodwill; they were all white canvas and booooring.
I've never lived in a house, but I don't think I'd want to use anyone else's curtains. I'm sure we'd have a different sense of style, and it doesn't seem very hygienic.
At the last apartment we rented, the landlord had put up a plastic floral shower curtain in the bathroom. We took it down immediately, and put up our own shower curtain. We kept the one he left us in the linen closet and put it back up when we moved out.
