I got a rejection letter this week. In my long and storied career of receiving rejection letters, this might have been the nicest and most personalized one.
So I emailed the interviewer to thank her for her time and ask her to keep me in mind from the future.
I got a response that basically said if they'd been looking to hire 2 people, I would've likely been #2. This is at least the third time that a prospective employer confirmed that I was the second choice.
I had a nice correspondence with the interviewer, but I don't feel comfortable asking for that type of info.
I assume they hired someone with more experience. That was the case when this happened a few months ago.
Heck, even in my previous job, I was third choice. I interviewed once, and they hired two other people. I interviewed a second time and was offered the position that day.
Does it make you feel better to know that your Brewers are spanking my Phillies?
Not really. And come now, spanking? Let's not get hyperbolic. We came dangerously close to blowing that game last night. Our bullpen is so, so pathetic. If we had even just the league average for blown saves, we'd be in second place.
We're going to the game tonight, and I'm the DD. No drinking and shitty baseball? I'm contemplating taking a book.
Maybe I should wear my wedding dress to the first day of my new job.
Too much?
No, totally normal and professional. I can't wait to hear how that goes! I seriously have my fingers and toes crossed that you find something soon. I don't know any cool lawyers, or I would totally keep my eyes open for opportunities. My only lawyer friend is "retired" and is a SAHM for life now.
When I got laid off a friend of mine recommended adding "what about my resume makes you think I wouldn't be a good fit for the position?" She said it gives the interviewer a chance to note what they're concerned about and you a chance to "refute" it. Or if nothing else, if you don't get hired then you know what the reason probably was.
I've always thought of this as the Official MM Interview Question. I've used it twice now and had an excellent back and forth with the interviewer where I solidified why I was perfect for the job despite their concerns. I got one of the jobs and the other they just decided to hire internally, so it's been good to me.
AH, I'm sorry you keep going through this. It's frustrating to keep reading that these firms are turning down someone we know to be so awesome. Someday your prince/dream job will come!
Have you seen what the Phillies are doing? We're cleaning house. It's sad.
Crappy team battle extraordinaire tongiht!! Honestly, I'd pay for a car/taxi to and from the stadium so I didn't have to sit through that tonight.
Nah, I'm using DD duties as a reason to follow my psychiatrist's advice of not drinking to excess. Plus, if you take a taxi, you can't tailgate, and the weather is going shold be BEAUTIFUL for it. A couple of hours sitting outside in the breeze doing nothing will be good for me.
