There's little else that turns me off as much as discovering a pretty, well-made dress is 100% poly content. And totally agree that it's off-putting when it's a dress from a designer/company that knows full well how to pick a better textile.
I have this problem with suits. I won't even shop at Macy's or othe department stores because all of the plus size suits are all polyester and like $300. Wtf. Even most of my suits from Talbots are polyester blend. I can deal with a blend, but it boggles my mind that there are 100% polyester suits at nice department stores being sold for hundreds of dollars. If I'm going to wear all polyester, then I might as well get a $99 suit at Dress Barn.
I don't see what the big deal is with polyester! Sometimes it can look really nice and feel really nice too. I don't know!
Oh, I own Polyester. Like I said, I feel like all the items from BCBGeneration are and I buy them when they go on sale. I'm not judging people for wearing it.
But when I see a top for $328 (like a Rebecca Taylor top I saw earlier) I expect a nicer material for that price tag.

Yeah.... even like Alice + Olivia. They do that too. A lot of times I see Alice + Olivia stuff and I love it but the quality is seriously NOT there for what they charge. I hate that!
I agree if it's for a top, or even a simple jacket or pants. If you pay the price you should get something nicer. But for highly designed dresses, I know the price is going towards the sewing and design work that went into it. However there is lots of good quality polyester out there and they can do almost anything with it.
I was disappointed when I realized how much of Banana Republic's stock was poly. I'd be horrified if that were the case with a nice designer dress.
I tried on a suiting dress at BR a couple weeks ago and it was maybe half wool and half poly. And priced at $160. I have older suiting dresses from there that are 100% wool (as they should be) and had comparable prices. BR's been cutting some serious corners lately, which is really ironic since their new marketing uses the word "luxury." I'm on the outs with them until they bring the quality back up. Lately I've pretty much only been buying things from J.Crew and Talbots where natural fibers are abundant.

I'm on the fence with this. Poly is easy to clean and for the most part, it doesn't wrinkle much. What pisses me off is a silk dress with a poly lining. This is pretty unbearable during the humid summer months.

I HATE polyester. I hate fibers that don't breathe and are not natural. If I love the item and it's not expensive I will sometimes buy it but I try to avoid it at all costs.
