I'm lazy today (and, also, a tired working mom, which gets me to my question).
The other day my mom (who is DD's primary caregiver so she sees me 3 days a week) told me I haven't had bags under my eyes like this since my BigLaw days. And I was definitely sleeping more then/less busy, if that's even possible, which means it must be pretty bad. Thanks mom! Love you too.
So, rec your undereye concealer please! Also, if you have a night cream or other eye cream that will magically erase my dark circles and 30-something early fine lines, I'll take that too. Thanks!
Retin A is your very best friend for lines. Or get an OTC retinol if you can't get an rx. Using it near your eyes is fine (although I'd go slowly at first).
If you're willing to splurge, my favorite undereye concealer is Cle de Peau (the texture is lovely and does not accentuate lines), and my favorite eye cream is Revive Moisturizing Renewal Eye Cream.
Also -- water, sunscreen, huge sunglasses, fish oil supplements, etc.
Commonly rec'd concealers on the MUB include: NARs creamy concealer, Benefit (I think?) Erase Paste, and bye-bye Undereye (can't remember who makes this). There are also some peeps who have rec'd the stuff V mentions above.
Personally, I didn't like the NARs, and returned it. Maybe I was using it wrong. Maybe I was expecting a miracle.
Concealers: For a cream, I like the Amazing Cosmetics Concealer. In powder form, I love Bare Minerals Well-Rested Eye Brightener. That stuff is really good at camouflaging dark areas under my eyes.
v is right that retinol is helpful for some of the line issues. I've tried and like Tarte's Maracuja C-Brighter eye cream for helping to brighten the area around my eyes. I'm currently trying an Ole Henriksen one, but honestly haven't noticed a huge difference with it.
Ditto Amazing Cosmetics. I used it for some time but I had to combine two shades to get a perfect match, and it got to be a pain after a while. Laura Mercier has several good concealer options. And I recently tried Benefit Erase Paste and I like that too.
Whatever you end up with, I highly recommend getting a flat concealer brush. It makes it go on so much more evenly than using your fingers or (in my experience at least) a full/round shaped brush.
Ok re retinol..neutrogena has a decent retinol eye cream I liked a lot. It's formulated for that area so not too strong.
Re. under eye stuff...bags are different than dark circles. For dark circles I literally heard angels singing when I discovered color correctors. I have to use this ridiculous terracotta color that you would think is part of a clown kit but it counter acts the blue black and magically neutralizes it. I don't even use concealer half the time after I put that on. check out MAC, they've got conceal and correct kits which should get you started but then you can buy the colors you use individually through their pro program on line. And someone at the store should be able to help you pick the right kit for you - there are 6 depending on skin tone.
For bags, it's more about technique and hiding the shadows...I learned a LOT watching videos by this guy named Wayne Goss on you tube and he has a whole thing on hiding bags. He's a UK make up artist but he keeps it real and is very accessible (and funny) and he does make up for real women...also funny he demonstrates on himself most of the time so you get the same view you would doing it in the mirror. It's highly amusing to see a short haired blond guy wearing eye shadow on just one eye.
I love Wayne Goss. I'm not great at makeup but he is a beautiful man.
I watched a couple of those videos, and was in awe. I was like, OMG, how the hell did he get his blush to do that???

I'm not sure if you are still breastfeeding , genet, but you can't use retinol while nursing.
