DS has horrible diaper rash - pedi prescribed us two creams for yeast and bacteria. We also have instructions to not use wipes on his butt until it clears up, so we'll be sending a cleaning solution and washcloths to daycare.
To help out, are there foods we should avoid? DS poops A LOT (pretty much always has) so it might be a futile effort, but I'd like to at least try to help him out. My poor bubba. Hearing him scream in pain tears my heart out.
Poor little guy. DS3 has been having more trouble with diaper rash lately, too. Oh, the screaming. It looks so sore. He always poops multiple times per day, but there are a few foods we have found that flare his diaper rash (perhaps related to acidity??): Grapes, tomatoes (or anything heavily tomato-based), too many berries in one day (one serving is fine, but two or more guarantees a diaper rash), more than one orange in a day.
We've found that the only thing that reliably helps clear the rash up once it has started is sprinkling a layer of baby powder over the top of whatever barrier cream we are using (usually desitin in the purple box). The baby powder keeps the desitin in place better even when he poops, so the poop can't further irritate his little bum.
We try to cut acidic foods as much as possible and it did seem to help some. Hope he's healed soon!
Is he prone to rashes? DD1 has such sensitive skin we used to joke that she'd get a diaper rash just thinking about pooping, and she also pooped frequently, so it was no fun. We basically always put cream on with a diaper change, regardless of whether or not she had a rash and that seemed to help. For non-rash days we used EMAB bottom balm primarily and at the first sign of any redness we used Sensicare Barrier Cream. It is seriously one of my top 3 baby items I think. I also saw that Boudreaux has a newish product that is for rash prevention but I haven't used.
laurenh - DS is a rashy kid. The pedi gave us a diaper cream recipe to use once he gets back to a normal bottom - equal parts Aquaphor, zinc oxide, and Maalox (not the mint kind). I'm interested to see if it works.
