DS1 is 4.5. Is this too soon? He loves it when we read in the living room and kiss him good night and send him off to bed/don't tuck him in. I suspect it's because he sneaks extra books and toys in bed with him. I kind of feel like it's too soon but MH thinks I'm over analyzing it.
Mine are 1 & 3 so take this for what it's worth. We read, do hugs and kisses and prayers and then tuck them in. I don't see that changing anytime soon, but they share a room so the older one is kind of along for the ride. Dd2 finally stopped asking to nurse at night and prefers to sit on her own rather than snuggled with me (way to break my heart kid!).

Our girls both have loft beds, so there's no laying in the bed with them. They go into bed on their own (although DD2 likes to be carried if she can talk us into it...she's getting big though!) and read for a while but we always go in and kiss them and turn their lights off. They are 9 and 12.5.
Idk, maybe teenager? Whenever kids stop wanting that kind of comfort which I think typically lasts for a while. We still tuck in our almost seven year old. We cuddle for five minutes or so and then I give him a kiss, say goodnight, and leave him awake to fall asleep on his own.
I would follow his lead. One of us still tucks all 3 of ours in. The 8 year old prefers to read to herself vs. us reading to her, but my 7 year old still likes one of us to read him a chapter. The process keeps getting shorter and shorter as they get older.
We still do with all of them. It is my fave time of day as well. We talk about anything that they are anxious about and how we will solve the problem, their fave part of that day, what they are looking forward to etc... Then we read and they settle themselves and fall asleep on their own. I love the wind down time with them.
If you are still getting that time, don't worry about it!
My seven year old still gets tucked in. She loves it. She plays board games and reads books with my H before she gets tucked in, too. It really is the favorite part of her day.
