Oh, and I agree that I enjoy it more. It's like, "Look at how he's looking at her! He's thinking about xyz!" rather than, "Why is that guy being weird?"
The only spoiler I regret knowing was one of the deaths on Downton Abbey. It just made me really sad and I couldn't enjoy the last few episodes with the character.
I mean I'm not trying other than GoT, but I'm doing pretty well on that score. Most of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and GoT are unspoiled. Though the only one I have much interest in is Breaking Bad.
Sadly I did know what happened in season 3 of The Wire before I saw it (wilted)
Yes! In fact I really like reading recaps but it's hard when a show that ended eight years ago. That's why I loved the archives on Television Without Pity.

This is why I stopped looking at spoilers. It wasn't Downton Abbey but another show that I can't remember specifically, maybe the Wire or Prison Break. It was years ago. But knowing the character was going to die made it suck to watch the show. I was just watching and thinking ok, I know you are dead so I'm not going to become invested in you or your story etc.
I do try to avoid spoilers but I also don't expect people to hide them if they are talking about the show for some reason. Being spoiled is a risk inherent in watching an old show.
I will say we are on season 3 of The Wire now and I would be super sad if anything major was spoiled for me.
I would have been BEYOND PISSED if anyone spoiled Breaking Bad (even though by my own admission I wouldn't have a right to be, since we watched the entire series about 6 months after it had ended.)

I love spoilers! DH hates them and hates that I read them, so I have to read them in secret and then act all surprised when something shocking happens.
Somehow I have managed to avoid "do Ross and Rachel end up together?" spoilers for a decade. I'm on season 8 on Netflix currently. Soooo close to finding out!
In terms of etiquette I think there is a statute of limitations. Like if you haven't seen The Sixth Sense and you complain when someone spoils it, it's on you.
I generally avoid spoilers, but sometimes I will seek out general information about the series.
I recently watched Dollhouse and found myself getting sucked in. Since it's only two seasons, I asked my H if the show actually got to wrap up it's story lines or if it got cancelled early. I just couldn't handle another Firefly.
I also look on imdb.com sometimes to see if various Doctor Who companions ever return to the show.
Yes. I try to avoid them. I was glad I watched Breaking Bad's last season in real time because I have seen that spoiled in so many times on TV.
Most of The Twilight Zone best episodes were spoiled for DH by The Simpsons. We figured the show was 30-50 years old when they spoiled it, so that's probably long enough to give people to watch, ha!

I did with the Wire, especially season 4. I don't really do it with the normal shows I watch- BBT, Modern Family etc. Not as invested with those characters like I was with Buffy or BSG or VM. I watched those as they were airing so not so much spoiling there.
I will look up plots to movies though to make sure it's something I'll enjoy. If the summary has something that will make me cry or stress me out, I tend to skip.
lol, right? Now I am like  WHAT WILL  HAPPEN IN SEASON THREE? I WILL BE LOOKING FOR ALL THE CLUES.
For some reason I thought you had already seen The Wire and were one of those who says it's the best show ever. Â Â
NO. I don't love it actually. I am watching because I have heard from so many people that if you love Breaking Bad you'll love The Wire or that The Wire is the only show better than BrBa. So far I feel like The Wire has been insanely oversold to me. It's not even in the same zip code as BrBa which IMO is the best show of all time.
I tend to self-spoil shows I have no interest in watching so I can remain functional in pop culture conversations. Breaking Bad is the best example I have.
I've discovered the AV Club recaps of Mad Men. Even though I've seen episodes multiple times, I still don't remember everything and love to "surprise" myself about what happened and the symbolism/meanings I missed.

This is so interesting to me. DH and I keep talking about watching Breaking Bad but I have real issues with anti-heroes. I am worried that I will have the same issue with it as I do with Mad Men-there is just no one to root for whereas even though you do like some of the "bad guys" in The Wire and are rooting for them in some ways, you still want the cops to win.
I couldn't get into Mad Men. I thought it was so boring.
I am actually not a big fan of anti-heroes myself--I have a lot of issues with them too. Breaking Bad is sort of an anomaly for me, it's definitely not the type of show I would have thought I'd be a fan of on paper. But there is just something genius and magical about it--the writing and art direction are both outstanding; there's symbolism and allegory and incredible foreshadowing, it's like a great work of literature. And even though the main character is an anti-hero, his evolution of is fascinating and compelling.
I can totally see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but as a complete package it is just an incredible show. I have never seen anything like it.
I try to avoid, even if I am not currently watching the show. For a while I tried to avoid spoiling Lost in case "I ever got around to watching it". LOL.

Hello, friend. I thought I was the only one, lol.
I don't seek out spoilers, but I've been spoiled for a lot of the GoT deaths, and it helps me emotionally prepare.
I thought I would never watch The Sopranos, so I would occasionally watch an episode if other people were watching. I ended up seeing some of the most pivotal episodes of the series, and I so wish I hadn't when I actually watched it.
I love crime type shows, but get really stressed out if I think something bad is going to happen, so I usually read the spoilers part way through an episode.
I typically read ahead in books also, which is why I am such a late adopter of the e-reader.
I am watching this French shoe 'the witnesses' and because it has subtitles - I look away and miss stuff. I cannot find episode recaps or explanations that are in English. I speak pretty okay French but not well enough to make sure I don't miss the meh part of the show.
No, I try to avoid spoilers. I'm currently binge watching Weeds and have Googled a few things to find out if certain characters return, but I don't look up anything that might spoil the drama.
