Oatmeal was something that made a difference for me. Old fashioned oats, not quick oats.
Same here. It's my breakfast every morning and totally not what I'm in the mood for in the hot, sticky weather here but it makes a measurable difference. I also eat oatmeal cookies but those don't have the same effect.
DS is only 2 weeks old, so I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but I started eating oatmeal for breakfast this week instead of cold cereal and my milk output has definitely increased the last few days.
Switched to the Symphony. Seriously, this was absolutely the thing that made the biggest difference for me and saved me from habing to supplement. With the girls I rented it the entire first year because I knew nursing twins I would need the extra help. With J I switched at 8 mos.
The Spectra is better than the PISA but not as good as the Symphony imo.
Fenugreek also helped with the girls (J had a peanut allergy so it was a no go and made him hysterical the two separate times I tried it)
Power pumping
Hands on pumping (this also made a really big difference for me)
Eat more calories. Seriously, when my output decreases it's b/c I didn't eat as much the day before. It suuuucks b/c this means I probably can't start losing weight until I decide to wean. Ugh.
Oh and any of the lactation cookies and brownies and stuff all meant more calories consumed for me. Gatorade also helps me and I drink it once or twice a week. I've increased my output by 9-10oz per day as an EPer.
This could be my problem. I'm not dieting per se, but have been pretty strict in the last few weeks about eating "whole foods" and avoiding sugar/the steady stream of ice cream I'd like to be consuming.
Are you open to domperidone? I wasn't with DD1 but would consider for DD2.
I'm not against it if it will help. Where's the best place to get it? Do I need a perscription?
The eating could be a problem. If I so much as looked at a calorie count, tried to watch what I ate in any way my supply tanked. I just needed to eat a lot in order to maintain my supply. And lots of fat, protein, and carbs. Restricting a food group did it too.
@awinter Is the Symphony more 'gentle' than the PISA? I just rented one and I was surprised that it seems to have a softer suction. Did I get a dud or is this normal?
Yes, that's normal. And why it's so much better IMO. The PISA pinches and pulls. The Symphony is sucking just as hard or even harder since it's technically stronger, but it feels so much smoother.
I think @dcn used domperidone to great success. I may have that tag wrong and can check when I'm off mobile. She has a boy a few weeks younger than my daughter.
Oatmeal every day. Old fashioned oats with 1 Tbsp brewers yeast and 1 Tbsp ground flax seed (and raisins, craisins, chopped walnuts, and brown sugar to make it palatable). Noticible difference if I missed a day.
The major breakthrough came from renting a massive honkin' pump - Ameda Platinum. Pumping ALL THE TIME for a few weeks. I am drinking more water, eating ice cream daily and eating oatmeal, but the pump and pumping like mad thing helped. After about a month of pumping on the Ameda, I went back to my PISA and now get a much bigger output on it than ever.
Sleep, plenty of calories (I eat a lot of ice cream), alternating pumps (I use PISA at work, Spectra at home), salmon, barley, lactation bars every day.
Calories, fat and being well hydrated. There is a huge difference in output for me if I'm lacking. I also try to add in Gatorade if I'm noticing a little dip.
C is 6 1/2 months old. I haven't been eating as much lately (mainly just not being diligent in getting enough calories) and I can tell my supply is a little on the lower side (still meeting his demand though).
Anyways, unintentionally, yesterday I was at my mom's and ended up drinking 64 oz of Gatorade (she has a TON...like over 100 bottles of 32 oz bottles for her health condition). I also ate a ton. Today, my boobs are full.
In the early days I ate oatmeal every day and it seemed to really help too.
