Hey guys, I've posted on here before about my 4 y/o shih tzu, who has made a new little habit of peeing on the bottom of our recliner in the living room. We have steam cleaned it several times, and natures miracle-d it within an inch of its life. We have never, ever caught him doing it. I know he can hold it all day, because when I have put a diaper on him, he's never soiled it. Also, I could tell, for example, that he did it today shortly after going outside, so I don't believe it's an incontenence issue. I can just put a diaper on him anytime he's not in my line of sight, but I prefer not to do that. Any ideas how we can get this to stop? Do I jus need to give in and put the diaper thing on all day every day? Sigh. Good thing he's cute.

Stop putting diapers on him. That sends the signal to him that it's okay to pee in the house. I agree with clo, tether him to you when he's not contained.
He's marking. You're going to have to block off his access to that room if you can't tether him or crate him, and start working on some Nothing In Life is Free (NILF). It's easy to let the little dogs get a little big for their britches, but, they should be working for their food/love/attention just like bigger dogs.
