We are heading to NY next month for vacation but we're taking a side trip to Niagara while we're there.
Planning for one night and would like to stay on the Canadian side. Anyone have a rec for hotel? No real price range, except for maybe not $500 a night
Feel free to throw out things to do or places to eat. It'll just be H and me () and we'll plan to be there for two almost full days.
We stayed at the Sheraton Falls View hotel several years ago, but I just checked and it looks like it is now a Four Points by Sheraton. I was happy with the hotel and the location. We had a great view of the falls, especially since we upgraded to a higher floor. We were there for a week, so we wanted a quieter hotel and not one with a casino. It was still walkable to all of the attractions.
A full week was overkill. I was expecting a nice, relaxing vacation but it was very touristy, and super tacky. A couple of days would have been perfect.
On our way there, we stopped at the Anchor Bar for lunch, where hot wings were invented. That was kind of fun.
The boat tour that takes you down to the falls is neat. They give you a plastic poncho to wear, but you still get wet. We also enjoyed the Ripleys Believe it Not Museum, but they are everywhere. Ice wines are really big up there, and we went on an ice wine winery hour that we booked through our hotel. That was a lot of fun, and I would definitely do that again. We really liked the ice wine martinis that all of the nicer restaurants offered, which is ice wine and vodka. We also took a drive to Niagara on the Lake, which was this quaint little village where people can go swimming. I wish we had stayed there for the bulk of the week, and in Niagra Falls just for a night or two.
I ended up using a bunch of my HHonors points and getting a 2 room suite at Embassy Suites with a view of both the Canadian and American Falls for 2 nights. The view of both of the falls wasn't that much more and the idea of having a second room with the LO was appealing.
The Marriott Fallsview also looked really nice but they didn't have any discounted rooms during the days we were looking. Note there are two Marriotts right next to each other so know which one you're getting. Otherwise The Tower looked like a good deal for the view but they have smaller rooms and don't allow kids (might be more of what you're looking for if it's just you and DH).
I've been <3 things on the TripAdvisor app. We'd like to do the Hornblower cruise (the Maid of the Mist doesn't operate anymore). See Clifton Hill, walk the Rainbow Bridge, enjoy the fireworks one night (possibly from our hotel room), and walk around a ton at Queen Victoria Park, Goat Island, Niagara Falls State Park, and maybe the butterfly conservatory.
If we had more time we would go up to Niagara on the Lake. It looks like a cute town. A lot of the recommendations on the TA forums say to get some Prince Edward Ice Cream. Not sure if they will have that down at Niagara Falls as well or not.
We stayed at the Embassy Suites. It was great! We walked to the main drag from there and had an amazing view from our room. They have a lot of deals through their website. Includes free breakfast and a "manager's reception" or something like that - which was basically dinner. And free drink tickets. We enjoyed Maid of the Mist! I think it's called something else on the Canada side now.
