I'm not sure why I dislike this so much, all I have to do is sit on the couch and watch. I'm excited to leave, I liked it here but most of my friends and my kid's friends have already left. An overseas move just seems like a lot more build up. This is the 4th set of movers we've had (non-temporary storage, unaccomPanied goods x2, and now main HHG shipment). I'm just ready to move on but we still have 6 days left. Ugh.

Overseas moves…they last an eternity!
Given how things go in stages, these kinds of moves can be difficult. I found that once we moved into lodging, I felt better, fewer loose ends hanging over my head.

I think most people find it uncomfortable. You want to keep an eye on things, but how to do it without hovering or getting in the way. At the same time you have to find a way to keep yourself somewhat occupied. It's a long awkward day imho. But once everything is gone and I can be on my way that's when my stress usually starts to level off.
It took them 3 days when they packed us up in May. I felt so useless and weird just watching them and doing nothing all day for 3 days. I couldn't wait for them to be done and take it all away so I could have my house back, even if it was empty.
Our move back to the states was one day of packing. They did HHG and unaccompanied at the same time :/ I'm nervous to see what comes when.
They did ours the same day, too. And picked up the furniture borrowed from housing the same day. It all worked out OK for us. Housing got the stuff they were supposed to get, our UAB arrived with everything in it we had designated to be in it (although we forgot to include some rather important essentials), and nothing was left in the apartment by the time they were done...
Heck, we only had one item out of the whole move damaged enough to bother replacing it, and I'll eat that $50 rather than deal with the damage reported stupidity for moves...

For real that move.mil site is the absolute worst. We are planning on buying practically all new furniture so I don't care at all about my couches and the like. I'm glad your move went well. The Korean movers were the most efficient we've seen and seemed to do a great job packing

The one move we had with claim-able damage (>$1k), we eventually abandoned our attempts to get any compensation. I think it was around when that move.mil site was being rolled out and it was one endless goosechase, and support numbers that led to nothing but voicemail, and forms we were supposed to fill out that we couldn't download, and all kinds of crap like that. Horrid. I was _so_ pissed off, and we've been reluctant to buy any decent furniture since then because of it. So frustrating.
Move.mil is the worst. I finally gave up trying to schedule my moves on there because I kept getting errors. The TMO office just scheduled me when I walked in and told me "oh yeah that site sucks." We are on Day 3 of movers. Miserable.
I've never attempted the website. I don't think I even knew about it. When did they roll that out? Our last PCS was in fall 2012.
Our OCONUS move was pretty easy because it was our first together and literally all we brought was our clothes and our wedding presents (kitchen stuff, mostly, and linens). We sold or trashed most of our single-person apartment furnishings. Our apartment in Egypt was furnished, so we didn't need any furniture and we had planned to have some custom pieces made over there.
I'm dreading our next move. The almost 3 years we've been here is the longest I've lived anywhere since I left my mom's house for college. I'm way overdue for a huge purge. Thankfully, if it works out the way we think it will, my hoarder H will be TDY for 6 months before we go, so I can just get rid of everything and he won't be around to object. (This probably makes me a bad wife.)
I'm also glad that we know this is our last baby, so I can ditch all the baby clothes and gear as he grows out of each thing and not have to worry about that stuff either. There goes 1/2 the contents of our attic!

Purging feels soooo good. You know you want to get started on it!
