I have a second "interview" on Thursday morning. I put it in quotes because it's really more of an office tour. I think the first interview went really well (she hugged me at the end?). But I'm worried they're going to super low-ball me on compensation.
Details: It's a communications specialist/office manager position for a farm co-op (think, local produce delivery). It's a VERY small operation, currently. 6 employees. I'd be replacing someone who is going to veterinary school (so not a 7th employee). Job description sounds really interesting and challenging; very diverse. They want someone who will help grow the company and expand the role as the company grows, so that the role will become more specialized and they (I?) will eventually hire their own admin for support. That's EXACTLY the kind of job I want and need. I KNOW I can rock that kind of job. The office is also currently less than 2 miles from my house.
I'm just VERY worried that they can't pay me enough. When I first spoke with the manager, she mentioned ownership shares to supplement compensation. *-) During the actual interview I told her what I was getting paid previously and that I'd be willing to take about a 16% pay cut, but that was as low as I'm willing to consider. I have a feeling what they want to pay someone is more than 40% less than what I was making before. I just can't do that. I also don't think it's reasonable, given the breadth of what they want this person to accomplish. If they do come in with a lower offer, and I've got a counter-offer in my head ready: I'll go a little lower IF they will give me a stipend toward my Covered CA health insurance premium.
The nice thing about having worked in corporate America throughout my 20s is that I have an established 401k that I'm willing to let sit for a while; I don't NEED all those kinds perks for now. But I need to be able to pay my bills. And I'd REALLY like to GTFO of my parents' house. Stupid ridiculously HCOL. Stupid Bay Area that I love so much.
Oh, did I mention that I received my final unemployment payment this week? So I am LITERALLY out of money.
So I'm begging the universe for reasonable-offer vibes.
Good job vibes heading your way. I loved working in non-profit, but when I moved and supporting myself, the low salary just wasn't feasible anymore, which is such a bummer. So I hope they are able to offer what you need, and they aren't wasting time after you were so clear with what you were looking for.

Seriously.
I mean... My unemployment was less than half of what I was making, so I could theoretically get by, but it would mean staying with my parents indefinitely, and that's only if they agree to let me continue paying only $300 rent.
I accepted lower pay than I wanted, BUT I negotiated her up 50% from her initial offer and she wants me to start off part time, so I'm actually happy with the amount of money (for now). It'll go up to full time pretty quickly, but she doesn't want to throw me to the wolves immediately, and until I get the hang of a few things, there isn't enough work for me to do full-time.
I cannot even tell you how excited I am. I start Monday.
AND I can bring my pup to work with me!!!! OMG SQUEEEE!!!
Also, I'm having some awesome schadenfreude. I texted my old coworker, the only one who I considered a friend at the old company, to let her know. She told me that since the company got bought out a few months ago, (by a BIIIG tech company; I NEVER thought that would happen!) the whole legal department is being laid off in the next month or so. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! Fuck those stupid bitches in their stupid faces. BYEFELICIA!!
