So seriously, why is it necessarily terrorism and not mental illness? Or just an angry dude? Maybe he knew someone there?
I'm not saying it couldn't be terrorism-linked, but it's amazing how just this guy being Muslim changes the conversation completely when we have exactly the same information as we have about other shootings in the immediate aftermath.
I agree. Right now we don't know. But I've already defriended someone who is shouting, "Nuke'em!"
I hope y'all don't care about your civil liberties because the government is going to start cracking down. The shooter lived here for a years, was a naturalized American, attended University of Tennessee and lived in a plain old upscale neighborhood. At this point authorities have found no connection between him and terrorist groups. Those with money invested in "national security" must be salivating gleefully.
But don't worry, your right to get lots of guns at the drop of a hat won't be touched.
That's a really interesting article - I wish I had written it!
With the Navy Yard shooting, it was the same story - guy wasn't Muslim, so it must have been mental illness or a personal beef, or something else. It's just amazing how this one piece of information completely changes the way we (and the media, especially) think about it and talk about it.
Yeah, I think when a government building and/or employees are the target and the perpetrator is not a soldier from another sovereign, (edit: it should be) quickly categorized as terrorism. How long did it take for the OKC bombing to be labeled an act of terrorism?
