Reports still kinda new, but it sounds like one gunman in a vehicle fired into a strip mall containing a military recruitment center, injuring one. A local community college is also on lockdown.
The U.S. Navy tweeted Thursday that there has been a shooting at a Navy reserve center on Amnicola Highway in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Navy also said it was investigating a shooting at another Navy building in the city.
Two witnesses, meanwhile, told CNN that someone fired shots at a military recruiting center in Chattanooga.
One officer is "down" in connection with the shooting, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke told reporters.
He was not specific about the officer's condition.
One witness told CNN that she saw a man fire shots at a building that houses military recruiting offices Thursday morning.
The witness, Gina Mule, said she was working at a restaurant when she heard loud noises. She went to a front window, through which she saw a man with "a high-powered rifle" fire multiple shots around 10:50 a.m. ET.
A second witness told CNN that she, too, said a shooting happened at the recruiting center.
"We're all shook up," said Erica Wright, who said she works at a hair salon two doors down from the center.
Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga is "on precautionary lockdown" due to a shooting in the city, hospital system spokeswoman Lisa McCluskey said.
"We have not received any shooting victims," McCluskey said. "We are still accepting new patients." The lockdown, she said, "is just a precautionary measure."

Authorities were investigating an "active shooter incident" late Thursday morning in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Fire Chief Randy Jackson said.
"Horrific incident in our community," tweeted Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke. "We will release details as they are confirmed. Prayers to all those affected."
Officials gave conflicting information about where exactly the shooting happened.
Jackson said paramedics were standing by but had not transported anyone at this time.
Photos posted on Twitter by media outlets showed police blocking a road and a large number of patrol cars.
A witness told CNN that she saw a man with "a high-powered rifle" fire multiple shots at a military recruiting center, and that he had been in a silver Mustang. She said she was watching through a window from inside a restaurant.
Gina Mule said she heard "Pow, pow, pow!" around 10:50 a.m. ET.
"I don't know how many shots he fired, but it was a lot," she said.
Chattanooga State Community College asked people on its main campus to stay inside because of a "confirmed shooting," the school said on Twitter.
Tiger Alert!!! Main Campus: Confirmed shooting. Stay away from Riverpark. Everyone stay inside, close doors.

I know it's too early to speculate, but hearing that the apparent targets were military-related immediately makes my mind jump to ISIS-backed lone wolf stuff.

In Chattanooga I'd also wonder about white separatist groups and if there's a link between this and the Texas/ Jade Helm conspiracy whackos.

See and my mind always thinks it is some guy that tried to get into the military but was rejected.

Ugh what freaking chaos. I had every one calling my phone telling me to get kids inside that a shooter was loose in Cleveland (20 minutes from Chattanooga). I mean I get that it is chaotic, but I don't understand how so much misinformation gets out initially. It made it sound like there were 6-8 coordinated shootings, not one line shooter. This whole thing is horrible. He obviously had some kind of issue with the navy. I am kind of in shock about the whole thing.
I know everyone here will be screaming about how this obviously means that everyone should be carrying, because God and guns and stuff.
So...is it too soon to wonder if it's an ISIS/lone wolf attack?
I know you meant this kind of seriously and TIC, but I believe that is one possibility on the table.
ETA: The conspiracy theories have already started.
An ISIS-Affiliated Account Tweeted #Chattanooga Just Before the Shooting Occurred Along With a Warning to Americans
An ISIS-related account tweeted “O American dogs soon YOU will see the wonders,” and used #Chattanooga, at 10:34 a.m., just about the same time police say the shooting began, according to JihadWatch.org.
The tweet is similar to one sent out moments before two ISIS-inspired gunmen opened fire outside the “Draw Muhammad” event in Garland, Texas, in May.
The gunmen in the Texas shooting were also from the Phoenix, Arizona, area.
I hope y'all don't care about your civil liberties because the government is going to start cracking down. The shooter lived here for a years, was a naturalized American, attended University of Tennessee and lived in a plain old upscale neighborhood. At this point authorities have found no connection between him and terrorist groups. Those with money invested in "national security" must be salivating gleefully.

I kinda had CNN burnout last night so I haven't followed up today yet. They have already said no connections to any groups?

I should probably go read the updates.
they haven't found a thing yet. No motive, only one arrest for DUI in April. Nothing of substance.

Don't terror groups tend to take credit for acts of terrorism?
This situation sounds like it may be pretty analogous to NC shooting. Young man who lived very normal American life influenced by hate group / movement...
So seriously, why is it necessarily terrorism and not mental illness? Or just an angry dude? Maybe he knew someone there?
I'm not saying it couldn't be terrorism-linked, but it's amazing how just this guy being Muslim changes the conversation completely when we have exactly the same information as we have about other shootings in the immediate aftermath.

I heard a rumor ISIS immediately took credit, but I haven't been able to verify. And even if it's true, it doesn't necessarily make the claim true.
I'm guessing we will find out his computer history soon. Surely it will reveal some motive.
