So I've noticed after about 7:30 when the kids channels switch off over here, that they sometimes do a news reportage aimed at what seems to be about ages 8 and up, with a teenager-ish reporter. Today's was on the refugee crisis. The reporter went to Morocco, and Italy and interviewed asylum seekers in detention centers, the people who work in the centers, and the coast guard. DD1 was really into it and asked a lot of really good questions afterwards.
Is there a web series or podcast or something like this in English that covers current events for kids?
When I was teaching we would watch CNN Student News. It's geared toward middle/high school. www.cnn.com/studentnews It's updated daily (week days). You can print the transcript and study questions for each video. I found it a good way to discuss current events with my middle schoolers.

An aside: Does anyone remember watching Anderson Cooper on Channel 1 news back in high school? Does it still exist? I loved him then as much as I love him now!
