DH talked to somebody "in the know" about potential openings at our current post. There are two strong possibilities for DH. We might actually get to stay here, at the same post, in the same house!!!!!! LO starts (German) kindergarten next month. The thought that he could go to the same kindergarten for three years thrills me!!! I love the environment and his teacher, who we met on Wednesday, is really caring and the philosophy of the curriculum is so child-focused. I really want this for him!
Plus, I really like our house and neighbors. And, I've made a new friend here (another Army wife, her DH is deployed, too) and they are here for three years, too. Our sons are about the same age and enjoy playing together!
Background information: Just as we packed out our house, the news was made public that the unit DH was joining was being shuttered upon return from Afghanistan next spring. This means that the hundreds of soldiers now down range do not have jobs when they come home. Because DH's MOS is so specific, securing a follow-on position at our current post is more challenging. We went from DH having orders for 36 months to not knowing where we'll be living next spring. We've been told that soldiers should know by mid-January what (and where) their next job will be. Life is always interesting!
Thanks! I know we'll be fine whatever happens--but it would be nice to be in one place for 35 months. DH and I have been married for six years and are living in house number seven.
That's so exciting that there is hope for you guys! I hope you get the good news you want!
I can't even imagine 7 houses in 6 years. We moved cross country twice in a year and a half and I about cried when we heard that H had a possibility of getting moved when he just made rank. We just bought a house here and were hoping to be here at least 5 years so we freaked a bit, but I let out a huge sigh of relief when we were told yesterday that he can't be moved geographically at all, and we most likely would stay right at the same command.

Beachy, I'm glad you are staying put. Adding home ownership into the mix brings with it an new level of involvement. We know we move frequently, so we don't buy (and have been fortunate that we have not been forced into buying as does happen).
I really want to stay here for our full three years, to have the opportunity to make stronger ties. Being here in Germany is such a great opportunity. I want DH to experience it, I want LO to remember it, and I want more of it! Fifteen months would be just a tease!
I am hoping that we may know before January. I think that it may happen given my special snowflake of a husband. They will want to lock in his assignment (and service member in similar situations) more so to know when the specific slot will be filled, if nothing else!
