Hi everyone! I miss all of you! Sorry I haven't been very active on the boards lately. I've been busy with work, moving last month, gearing up for my European vacation next month, and preparing for graduate school this fall. I also amped up my job hunt and finally landed an amazing position in Boston! I will be working at a major teaching hospital that is only 20 minutes by T from my apartment. My pay will be increasing by over 30% and I will only have to work every third weekend instead of every other. I'm so excited!
How are all of you doing? Please share your updates, too!
P.S. I won't be able to make the next GTG, but I want to see you ladies! If any of you are free, particularly on weeknights, let me know!
Where are you going in Europe? We leave next week on our trip to Germany and Italy. I just found out one of my best friends is going to be in some of the same cities as me at the same time. Crazy!
And we find out the gender of the baby next week so yay for that!
Exciting news les! I can't wait to hear about the baby cgpm.
Things are pretty boring here. Work is pretty quiet, as is expected for the summer. I get 4 free days off over the summer without taking PTO, and I'm taking one of them just to have me time. DH is going to his big event next week, so DD and I will be flying solo for 10 days. Should be fun.
I took her to the beach on Saturday and my back is lobster red. FYI, do not ask a 5 year old to put sunscreen on your back.
Our garden is exploding, so I've been enjoying fresh summer squash, beans, and herbs.

congrats les!! What kind of floor/unit is it?
I have a lot of changes as of late. Started a new job 2 weeks ago. I am 4 months pregnant with our 3rd, due Christmas Day. We are having our kitchen redone. my youngest started a new daycare today. anything else I can add?

DH landed a nice job outside of Raleigh, NC so he starts on August 10th and we are driving him down then. Its pretty MM, he got a 20% raise and a small signing bonus (which will cover most of the moving expenses). I'm leaving after October 15th deadlines, so hopefully I can make either the August or September GTG.
Best news about the job RockNVoll is it is for a contract with the UK, so I'm crossing my fingers we get some travel out of this as well.
So between packing, purging, and cleaning we are also dealing with the pool contractors from hell. Allegedly someone new will be here today. If not I already told the store they can come by and pickup the pieces of the pool and give us a refund.
bostonmichelle, can I ask more nosey questions? Were you trying to move out of state? Was your DH job hunting long or did this just pop up? Will you keep working? I imagine you have to get new licenses and such. Are you excited about Raleigh? Wishing you lots of luck with selling the house and coordinating the move! Are you going to handle it yourself so you save a bunch in realtor fees? (Apparently I have a LOT of nosey questions )
Yes nosey questions are more than welcome.
We started considering looking outside of the state because Lower COL and same pay (he actually got a decent raise) when DH got slighted at raise/bonus time along with everyone else in their company. We also considered moving further down 128 but I felt we were going to end up going backwards in the money sense. He applied on June 30th, offer in hand July 14th, final negotiations and signed on July 16th. So he only had applied to one other job, we figured he wouldn't be leaving until September but such is life.
I'm going to keep working here at my office thru Oct 15th, then I have my marathon on the 18th then we will be driving me and the two dogs down. I'm going to start job hunting beginning of September and try and get something lined up for the end of October/beginning of November.
I already looked into reciprocating my licenses, now that we have an address I'll start the paperwork once B moves into the apartment. And I have no idea what I want to do with my life down there, I think I'm going to try and get into a corporate role, tax season has burned me out too much the last few years.
Yes I'll be selling my own house and save my commission.
I'm very excited to move to Raleigh. I'm excited not to deal with 10 feet of snow and all of the rest of the winter woes.
Anyone want to buy my house? There should be a brand new pool installed today! Should be on the market in the next few weeks.
But you've threatened it enough times that none of us believes you And, scm1011, at least I have plans to come back! AND you got a free place to crash in London You should really come back; I think we might have found our new flat and it will have a guest room with two twin beds I'll post pics if we actually submit an offer and have it accepted.
bostonmichelle, thanks for indulging me. What a quick job hunting process your DH had! It's not too surprising I guess since I'm guessing his expertise is in high demand and not many people have his abilities! You're much more zen about these big changes than I was.
Hahaha probably because I have been dealing with pool contractors from hell to really start worrying about this.
But praise the lord there are professional looking guys with big trucks working on the pool as we speak. My dad drove over on his lunch.
I'm jealous of your US Open tickets, scm1011. A co-worker once promised to take me, but her BF took her instead. Boo.
Me too! I've always wanted to go, but somehow have never made it. Have fun scm1011!
Congrats lizlemon19! Hope everything is going smoothly with your pregnancy and your new job. bostonmichelle, good luck with everything! les, congrats on the job! @rock-n-voll, hope this is it and you won't have to keep looking for a new place.
I hate all of you who are traveling. You're just going to have to be sure to post pictures and report back, so I can live vicariously through you all. We had/are having some work done at the house, so there's no way we're going anywhere any time soon. Bah!
It's all baby all the time here still. I can't believe he'll be two months old on Saturday. Or that I go back to work in a month. My SIL and her family are coming to visit next week - we haven't seen our nieces in ages (~ 4 1/2 years), so we'll basically be meeting them all over again. They have a bunch of touristy/vacation stuff planned, and my ILs seem put out that they won't just be hanging out with family. Personally, I am all familied out right now, so I am happy to spend one day with them and then let them enjoy their vacation. I'm sure we'll be subpoenaed to some sort of family dinner at some point. My husband is uber cranky about it, but I'm just rolling with it and grateful that his family is the one being annoying for once, ha.
The only other "big" news is that my brother and SIL found out they're having a boy, so B will have a cousin close in age. Hopefully, they get along, because he won"t have a sibling, so it'd be nice for him to have someone.

Wow, lots of exciting things happening! Congratulations bostonmichelle on the move! And RockNVoll, good luck on the new flat! scm1011, lots of luck with your testing. Hope you get some answers soon.
Let's see, we have been running ragged. I had two girls weekends this summer, one in ATL and one in Chicago. We spent two weeks in CA visiting family and just came back from a long weekend in NH with Tim's family. Now we are firmly planted for a little while until we head back to CA in September. But we have friends coming to visit in August!
We are in love with our house and our town. There is tons to do with my now two year old! This was a tough move to make but its turned out better than I had hoped. I have two half marathons this fall and am getting back in shape for those.
But you've threatened it enough times that none of us believes you
I asked DH the other day, and now he says he plans to stay at his current job for another 2 years. No one has called him about other offers, and he's in a good spot as far as work/life balance. We're definitely not moving to Cincinnati after his ridiculous flight there!!!
Hi ladies! It's so nice to read everyone's updates. I have been super out of the loop. I just got back to work two weeks ago and have been catching up on my crazy backlog. Finally emerging this week! The transition to work and daycare has been pretty good, about all that I could have hoped for I guess. I'm tired but that's just my new normal. I'll try to start posting more again!
Thanks, RockNVoll! I'm glad to see you're doing well and reunited with your H. And we'll see about a GTG, although it's harder now with the little guy.
Nothing exciting, unfortunately. Our front steps were literally crumbling, so we had those replaced and now the entry way is a disaster. So they're fixing that and we're getting a new front door. Plus, the previous owners put the wrong type of shingles on the porch, and it's leaked, so we have to replace the shingles and fix the damage. WHEEE!!!
I totally can relate about the pictures - I don't even think I have any of the house from before. I think I saved the listing photos somewhere, but we haven't really taken any since we've updated. I should probably do that at some point And I just spent 10 minutes trying to post a picture of B, but I failed miserable so you've got a PM.
caligirl22, what halfs are you running this fall? I'm 99% sure I'm running the Smuttynose Rockfest Half on 10/4. I'm glad you're enjoying your new house and town!
I am doing the Rock n Roll Brooklyn on 10/10 and the Newburyport half a few weeks after. I volunteered at the Green Strides race here in April and got a free entry to Newburyport, otherwise I wouldn't do two back to back! I want to do Smuttynose next year. i've heard its a great race!

Congrats on your move to Raleigh! We moved from Raleigh to Boston 4 years ago. We lived off Glenwood, and I had a job in RTP. But Raleigh is fantastic and growing a lot! So much has changed since we've been gone for the better of course. We loved Umstead Park and the greenways. It was nice to be 2 hours from the Beach and 3 hours to the mountains! Good luck with the move.
I started my new job last week and so far, everything has been great! I am not minding the commute yet- luckily there really isn't any traffic. I haven't had time to really be on during the day so its great to read everyone's updates.

I feel like we're just treading water. Still arguing with the school system about where Lucas is going for K. D is job hunting but were torn on that. If he stays through dec. he gets severance and a retention bonus. But it's easier to get a job when you have a job. So basically we've made no progress here. Poppy is super cute though

Oh nice! I did the Brooklyn Half in May. It looks like the course for RnR is slightly different (at the Brooklyn Half we went all the way down Eastern Parkway and ended on the Coney Island Boardwalk instead of doubling back to Prospect Park). I also did 2 back to back (Brooklyn, then Run to Remember the next week).
I'm doing Smuttynose with a friend for her first half. Apparently its the flattest in New England, so sounds good to me
How did you like the Brooklyn race? Did you head in for the day or stay over? We are thinking of staying in Brooklyn and making a weekend of it. I've barely spent any time in Brooklyn, twice for the Five Boro Bike Tour and once for a brew festival.
