3.5. So, had to get rid of the cheapie Costco seats in exchange for 5 point boosters. But, their 5 point boosters go to 65+ pounds so we'll have them in those for a while

Shortly after he turned 3. He just turned 4 and is 45 lbs now.
He's also about to outgrow his Britax Marathon and Boulevard because his torso is too long. I think we are going to move to a Frontier since he's nowhere near ready to be in a booster.
ETA: I see that the Radian weighs less than the Peg Perego, so there is that.
Where are you getting weights for convertible seats? I have had a hard time finding them and there seems to be a lot of conflicting info. For example, Amazon says the Peg is 11 lbs (which it is most definitely not), but it lists the shipping weight as 30 lbs. My estimate is that the actual seat is 20-25 lbs. It makes it hard to compare without actually lifting things which is possible, but inconvenient, especially since you can't always find all the brands you want to look at in one store.
I always look on the manufacturer's website, although I got the Peg's weight from Diapers.com because the Peg Perego website won't work for me in any browser. The Peg Perego is 21.6 pounds, the Combi Coccoro is 14.3 pounds, and the RadianRXT is 26.15 pounds.
I'm wondering if Amazon got the convertible's weight mixed up with the infant seat's weight.
Light is good when you don't have a car. I had a Cosco Scenera for DD1 when we were carless in Chicago. It was so light but a major PIA to install rear facing. I'd probably go with the Combi, but you should realize you'll hit the height limit for that faster than you would with a seat like a Radian. Of course, the Radian is heavier than either of those seats, but it can be folded and worn as a backpack. It can also be used up to 120 pounds if you switch to high back booster mode after your kid hits the height limit for harnessing.
DD1, who is only 43 pounds at 7, is almost 50 inches tall now and was 40 inches around age 3.5/4.
Thanks. The Combi has 40" limit forward facing. The Peg is 49".
I won't get away with only buying one carseat, will I?
Your kid will almost certainly hit 40" before 40 lbs. My niece hit 40 inches around 3.5 well before she was ready for a high back booster, so my sister had to get another harnessed seat.
What about the Graco 4ever? It's 23 lbs and it's designed to be the only seat you'll need. I'm not sure about the ease of install though.
Alternately, just resign yourself to 2 seats and get whatever convertible is easiest to carry and install. Your second seat can be a harnessed booster when the time comes.
Most of these are later than expected, which I think is a good thing.
Here is my dilemma:
I don't have a car. This means that every time we use a carseat, we will be installing it. I have decided to skip an infant carseat and go straight to a convertible. It's just not worth getting a seat that we will use so infrequently. A generous estimate of usage is 5 times a year, but it is likely to be less in actuality. I am debating between a lighter, easier to travel with seat that has a 40 lb limit (Combi Coccoro) or a heavier (though not the heaviest I have felt) seat with a 65 lb limit (Peg Perego). If H and I are any indication, height should not be an issue, but obviously the Peg will last longer that way too.

The radian is useless as a booster though. It has a 50 lb minimum to use it in booster mode, but both of my girls had their ears over the top of the shell before hitting 50 lbs (and ears over the top of the shell is the height maximum for a FF harness or high back booster).
I wouldn't recommend a radian for that kind of occasional use given the other seats that are on the market now. A few years ago it was the best option available (and only one that fit in my beetle to accommodate my tall kids), but now the market has been flooded with lighter options that are as tall or taller, not more expensive and easier to use.

My girls were 4 and 3.5 when they hit 40 lbs. Both were "squares" at their 4 year well visits. DD1 was 40" and 40 lbs, DD2 was 42" and 42 lbs. DS is 36 lbs now at 2.5, so I suspect he'll hit 40 lbs earlier than his sisters did.

Muddled since you don't have a car and will presumably need to install in random vehicles I'd get something fairly easy to install. The britax click tight or the chicco next fit would be nice for that but they're not light.
I don't know how heavy the graco size4me is but that might be s good option.
I probably wouldn't do a "cheap" light seat because they tend to be harder installs.
I agree with this. The first seat we got is cheap and light, but a PITA to install, and also large, which means it can't go in all vehicles.

Did not realize this, so thank you.
You're welcome . It's a major frustration of mine as far as that seat is concerned. I feel like the booster part of the advertising is false advertising since it only is usable as a booster by a small number of kids for a very short time. It's a fantastic seat for ERF and a good seat for FF, so still a good seat, just not the only one someone will need. And it's downright incompatible in some cars and can be really finicky (between the RF boot, the potential for needing an angle adjuster, the safe stop for FF with top tether but only below 40 lbs) so not a good option for someone who uses seats very rarely. Way too much to keep in your head!
My DD just turned 6 on May and had her 6 year well child appointment today. She's 39.4 pounds. However she sits in a high back booster (as of last month because she's mature enough to handle it at age 6).
