Have you looked at the Evenflo Sureride? I think the seat is only 11-12 pounds.
Oh, this is probably the right answer. 10.5 lbs according to the manufacturers website, forward faces to 54", and only $99.
We got this seat as the extra seat for my sister and mom when they watch DD. It's definitely light and has a huge shell. It makes DD look tiny at 38". That being said, she's only 28lbs at 3.5yo so I can't answer your original question OP.
My oldest was 40 pounds somewhere in his third year (the specific time is foggy). He has always been in the 90's for his weight/height percentile. I am figuring 4 year's old for my youngest child. He runs about average and is 30 pounds now at 2.5.
Thanks for all the responses and advice. I'm sorry I disappeared. It was one of those weekends.
I was hoping to get one seat that would last throughout the carseat years, but I'm not worried about a booster at this point. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.
I think I have resigned myself to the fact that it will be easier on us to go with a lighter seat. I will check out the Evenflo that was recommended for that purpose. We like that the Combi looks easy to install as well.
But, who knows? Maybe by the time, we need a step up, we'll actually have a car. Lol.

Don't most seats have 5-year expirations? I would just go with a lightweight convertible and call it a day. Then when it expires you can get a FF facing 5-point harness. As fivedogs has taught me, most 5-year olds aren't ready for a high back booster.

Muddled I'd focus on the ease of installation. It is so frustrating trying to install a cheap car seat when in a rush. We LOVE the click tights due to how quick and easy they are to install. We've traveled with it, installed it in 4 different cars, and always super easy. I love it.

My kids are peanuts; they've always been in the 10-15th percentile for weight. My oldest still hasnt' hit 40 lbs. The last time I checked, she was at 37.5 lbs. She'll be 6 in January.
I'm not sure whether you are usually dealing with taxis or rental cars/zip cars (I wouldn't mind carrying a heavier seat to a rental car and then not uninstalling it until I was done with it).
The one plus to the Coccoro is that it is supposed to fit on a Snap N Go Ex (only that specific SNG) or the Mountain Buggy Nano. So it is a convertible that can be used with a stroller like an infant seat. Once it is outgrown FFing, you could use the IMMI Go, which is a 5-pt harness car seat that folds up into a travel bag (it does require that you use a top tether anchor and is supposedly much easier to install with the lower anchors than the seatbelt). So if I were primarily using taxis, I would consider this combination (Uber Family does have the IMMI Go in certain cities). It is not the cheapest option (the Coccoro is fairly spendy and the IMMI Go is $200), but it is the most convenient for short trips in taxis.
If you primarily use rental cars/zip cars, then I would probably just want a seat that is reasonably priced, long-lasting, and easy to install and not focus too much on a 5-lb weight difference.
Thank you so much, fivedogs.
We don't actually use taxis that much at this point. Most of our car trips will be in relatives' cars or rentals. 9/10 car trips will be combined with a flight and not local rentals. A local rental may happen once a year- although perhaps that will change with Kid? Basically, when it is in the car, it will likely stay there for a couple of days, but we will have to lug it around quite a bit to get it to the car in the first place and that, in itself, will require a taxi ride.
I doubt that we will worry too much about the stroller attachment. We have a stroller that reclines enough that it is infant compatible, so we should be okay in that regard.
I appreciate all your advice. That doc is really helpful, too.
