"Look, Gabriel, those are trees! You don't have those at home." Umm what?
"People must think Gabriel is a girl because of HIS big gorgeous blue eyes" (said dismissively about Marcus) That's just strange all around.
"Well, I wouldn't get an ABORTION. But it'd be hard to bring a child with cystic fibrosis into this world. Did you know they don't know severity until birth?" Said off-handedly and as if Jake and I hadn't gone through EVERY FUCKING DETAIL of CF and our options when we thought the kids could have it. OMFG that one had me livid, LIVID. I think she's still hurt we didn't include her in any of that until afterwards but JFC get oooover yourself. The conversation was brought up when I was talking about adoption over PGD if we want more kids, and I was saying PGD made me feel weird (selective embryo via IVF).
And finally: "C'mere, Gabriel, I won't spank you anymore." Said after I asked her to *burp* him harder b/c he was fussing in the middle of eating and she refuses to actually burp the kids. Spanking for burping, OMFG!!!
Is she always dismissive of Marcus? That would be a huge problem. How often do you see her? Do they live close?
I could only take my mom in small doses when my kids were smaller because she was soooo full of advice. She started making me feel like a crap mom so I had to take breaks in between visits. Now, either the Zoloft is making me not give a fuck or she's simmered down a bit. Either way, things are better.
No, I mean, she definitely favors Gabriel but she still plays with Marcus, etc. I think it's partially that Marcus is more independent so she feels more needed with Gabriel. This is basically replaying my sister (as Gabriel) and me (as Marcus) growing up Right now she sees them once a week. We made a special trip down today to see her. Her classes start in a week or so and we won't be seeing her again until HOPEfully Thanksgiving lol!

Oh, I didn't know you thought the boys had CF! How scary. They don't though, right?
On a related note, mil diagnosed Lucy with a cleft palate when I had my 3D ultrasound. She didn't tell me until she was born, but still. Apparently there is a condition in dh's family that causes pilondinal cysts, off-center ureter openings in males and cleft palates. That was fun.
Ugh, anything like that is terrifying. I wish there was an easier way to SEE this stuff in utero, lol!
No, they're just carriers, we had an amnio at 17wks. Both Jake and I carry the most common gene, so we're done w bio kids (barring PGD but we're not comfortable with it). We didn't tell family until we got the results a ridiculous amount of time later (7wks later!).

Moms can be the worst. And yours deserves a smack in the mouth.
But I do have to laugh at all the mom's that are doing this to older kids. Noah is the most perfect person on the planet to my mom and at almost 14 she still calls and tells me what to do with him.
I can remember one time that my mom called me at 6 in the morning (when I was a teacher and already up and getting ready for work) to tell me that I needed to be sure to dress Noah in jeans and long sleeves and a jacket because it was so cold outside. I lost it on her and didn't speak to her for several days. She never did that again.

My mom does that with both of our girls, but C more because she actually plays outside. She is also very concerned about how well they sleep at night.
In h's family, it is clear that SIL's oldest son is the favorite with my MIL. I feel sorry for his younger brother.
It IS fucked up, Mama! I didn't really notice until Jake (who is home when she comes to watch the boys and therefore is around her with them more than me) pointed it out. It's not always as in your face as it was this weekend, and Marcus is her favorite to photograph b/c he isn't always moving, but it already bothers me. Ugh.
It's mostly the concentration of all this crap since I've been seeing her every week. After this weekend, when she's watching the boys while we go to a wedding, I'll be happy not to see her again until Thanksgiving!!!
I will ignore, Grace, and probably the lifelong bits of advice that drive me nuts too!!
