The pipe burst in my front yard Friday or maybe Thursday. It poured most of yesterday so who the fuck knows. Anyway, after dealing with that crap, some neighborhood, ghetto fabulous piece of shit pair of pitties came running at my peteybird while he was setting up the stroller and one of them bit the kid in the calf.
To his credit, boy did not scream, flail around, or run. He came inside the house, the dogs on his heels where my dog proceeded to jump and bark and bite as if she weren't a third of either of those fuckers' sizes. All of this occurred not two feet from where pudding was chilling out in his swing. (And no exaggeration either. My living room is tiny and I sew so I know what two feet looks like.)
Ack! My head hurts from dealing with it all.
Long story short, no major trauma, just a dog tooth sized puncture in my kid's calf. Animal control took one of the dogs away. Dude says he's sure they've been bred for dog fighting. We have a hearing on the 7th I think for them to keep the dog and then they'll be a dangerous dog hearing following that.
The worst part is I HAVE NO LIQUOR IN MY HOUSE with which to mellow out. Oh and H isn't home either, damned training.
Oh OH! Aaaaaaaaaand, to add insult to injury, dude who owns the damned dogs was no where to be fucking found until the cops shows up almost an hour and a half after the initial bite. He got his dogs off my porch and went back home without an apology or anything.
Not even the EMT's with their lovely loud ambulance and roaring engine brought this guy to my house. Nope, when the police show up and inform him they've called animal control (because he can't find their rabies information) then he moseys over to apologize/blame my kid/blame my dog.
First he says, oh, I guess they thought he was running. Uhm no, assface, my kid was setting up a stroller. No way was he running or does any part of that look like running PLUS, he's been told since he was incredibly short that you don't run from dogs, ever.
Then he says, oh, I guess they saw your dog outside. Try again, douche nuggets. My dog wasn't outside. She was inside the house, looking out the door, yes but far enough inside that your poor, abused dogs didn't see her she stuck her nose outside to see what was wrong with pete.
They just enacted laws here that if your dog causes any damage/inflicts any pan, causes any injury or death, YOU are responsible and do the time/pay damages, etc.
So it would be treated as if your neighbor had bitten Petey.

I am so sorry your baby boy got bit and glad he will be ok. I hate dog owners like that, especially pit owners. Those dogs need to be taken away from someone like that.
mrsjules, they will be. The Animal Control dude told me he was taking the male dog which they think was the one who bit petey, that he hadn't told the dog owner yet but he wouldn't be allowing them to get the dog back. He also said he would return in the day or so for the other one as well.
We'll be subpoenaed for the hearing once animal control is able to write it up properly and serve the guy.

That's scary! So glad your son is OK! That dog owner is a douche. And it's people like him that perpetuate the myth that all pits are vicious, which sucks.
Yeah, just for the sake of saying it, I do not believe pitties are more prone to violence, bites, or attacks than any other breed. Nor do I mistake any old larger breed for one either.
But dude, these were every rap album cover ever dogs and these people are far from well meaning dog owners. They picked the pair up as puppies and let them roam the street until they got too big. Their kids used to hit these dogs, push them, shove them, throw things at them. I told H if I ever saw it again, we'd call AC but I didn't see the dogs after that. I didn't think they had them anymore.
My dog bit at least one of them. You know how it is when dogs scrap, it's hard to tell. But she did get a clean hit in and she went toe to toe with both of them. I was kind of surprised she was that fierce about it. Poor Lucy is 20lbs of Boston terrier to their at least 100lbs a pop meatiness.
I actually feel for those dogs though because what kind of life were they to have in that situation.
I'm so glad Petey is okay, as are you and Pudding. I feel bad for those dogs; it's not their fault how they turned out and they are the ones who will be paying for it. In a lot of states those owners will be held liable if they have homeowner's insurance for any damages (bills, treatment, pain and suffering). I'm afraid that they won't have any though. Assholes in so many ways.

AMEN! The breed has a bad enough rep as it is and it is because of douchebags like him. Mine got out the other day because my niece left the door open and she just hung out on the corner wagging her tail at people walking by even with their dogs. I am so thankful that my neighbors know she is a sweetheart. If mine ever did get out and caused anyone harm I would take 100% responsibility for their actions.
What douches! Does Petey need rabies shots of they can't find the info? I had to have them once - the stuff is bright pink. I am glad he is otherwise okay!

How did you break up the fight? I'm SO GLAD your son and dog are okay, but two big dogs on one little dog doesn't usually end well. I would have lost my mind while this was happening - how did you stop them?
I would sue the shit at of that asshole. If he's as trashy as it sounds you may not get anything but perhaps he has a truck you can attach. That dog will be put down (if it is a pitbull bred for fighting) and you will win in court. I mean, I'm not allowed to say those things, so don't listen to me, but you will.
Take your son to urgent care today. You want to document his injuries. Even if you won't sue, you want them documented for when jackass tries to keep his dogs. And make sure to log exactly how long it took before he found proof of vaccination. Did he find proof of vaccination?
Your poor son.
ETA: I would take him to a psychologist too. This is going to sound dumb but I a, still traumatized by being pecked by my grandmother's chickens. I can only imagine how P will feel about being around strange dogs in the future.
Pete's almost 11 so he understands that most dogs are nice a friendly and he's totally cool with Lucy. He even said after it happened that it wasn't going to make him afraid of dogs.
EMS, the police, and animal control were all on the scene at different times and all filed their own reports, taking statements, etc. The Animal Control officer took pictures at the scene and called me this morning to get all the information necessary to file a case.
So far, we haven't spent anything on his care so I'm not sure how much of a case I would have if I sued him outside of whatever Animal Control will be doing. I know they've already issued a ticket and fined him and the AC officer said the dog owner would be served as well for a court date as well as a dangerous dog hearing. We'll be called as witnesses for both.
Animal Control was called to the scene because the owner could not locate the rabies information. The police officer said that they have those records on file so I'm assuming the county can't locate the info either so it's likely the dogs are not vaccinated.
The AC officer left me with the case number as well as his information so I can contact them if I don't hear anything in a few days. I know the owner has already been given a date for the ticket. I think it's the 7th but I'll call just to be sure. We'll be there, trust.
expat, they didn't go at it as hard as I thought they would. It's such a tiny, confined space and I think the two were confused by their surroundings. Lucy pushed them back to the door and the owner was able to grab their leashes. I managed to shut the door between their dogs and mine.
It was all over within a matter of minutes I'm sure though it felt like forever.
