I would take his temp. If he has a fever I would give him medicine. I would not go to the doctor if I was at home at this point so I would not go to urgent care.
I'm confused. Why would you take him to the ER without even checking his temp? He's probably just out of sorts, combined with teething nonsense. But check his temp first.
He's tired and uncomfortable from travel, maybe teeth and a minor cold. Doesn't sound like urgent care to me. Get a thermometer and check his temp, if Motrin doesn't help, go from there. Definitively do not go to the ER. That said, trust your mom gut.
Ugh, with a history of EIs, it's easy to automatically think it's an EI again, and it very well might be. You know your kid better than we do. But it could definitely be any combination of teeth/new place/off schedule/travel/etc.
Did he have fevers with his previous EIs? If so, see if you can get his actual temperature to see if he has a fever. Give tyelnol/motrin appropriately to get through the day.
Will you be back home tomorrow? If so, even if it is an EI, I'd likely wait to see a doctor until then. The antibiotic wouldn't help to relieve any pain today anyway, so you'd still be dosing pain meds all day. One day won't be a huge delay in this case.
I'm sorry for your loss. I think I'd just try to check his temperature and as long as it was within the realm of normal, I'd hold off until you're home assuming he doesn't get any worse. I hate EIs but my kids are usually miserable with them so they're easier to detect.
FWIW, my girls are 7 months and both have developed stranger danger and separation crying in the past 2 weeks or so.
