If you have stairs in your house do you let your April chold do them alone? H and I are at odds over it.
We live in a colonial with a finished basement so we have two sets that we use daily. We both agree that he can't do the wood stairs from our family room to bedrooms alone because they are hard and slippery and the hand rail isn't great. However the stairs from my living room to our playroom have carpet. I think he can do the stairs by himself.
Tyler just went to a summer camp at the sports center near us. They have huge flights of stairs there that he did daily by himself with no problem.

Yup, and has for a while. We live in a three story townhouse, so he had to learn early. Our staircases are all carpeted, but he has no problem with other types of stairs.
Yes and has for awhile. We took our gate down forever ago. We have a gate at top we used for night in case of sleep walking but we've gotten lax with it
Caleb's been doing stairs by himself since he's been able to walk. We don't let him go down the basement stairs without supervision, but he's pretty good on them, too.

Daniel does and has for a very long time, we moved into this house the week he turned 2, we didn't put any gates up until we needed them for A. A still needs help but he walks up and down the stairs now, I'm hoping we can take the gates down within a year.
Sort of. She's goofy, so she likes to play a bit, which worries me. But I let her go up and down basically alone. I am always lower than her on the stairs, sometimes almost the whole length of the stairs. I don't know how it would actually help with me being so far away, but it makes me feel better.
There are carpeted stairs from the kitchen to his playroom (in the basement), and we've been letting him do them on his own since we moved in (he was about 1.5). I normally like to be nearby when he's doing other stairs, but he's really pretty good at them.

Zoe takes stairs by herself every day. We often sleep in the basement, so she goes up and down those stairs, and she loves going into my bedroom in the attic, and those stairs make me more nervous, as they're very steep, but she does fine.

Allison pretty much has free reign of the house. We keep her out of our bathroom and the basement. But she goes up and down stairs all day since we have a split level. All stair, except the basement, are carpeted.

We took the gate down like 3 months ago, but she isn't supposed to go up or down without our permission. They are steep, and end on tile, so I'm still to nervous to let her do it willy nilly since she doesn't pay complete attention all the time.
We have wood floor stairs and William does him by himself all the time. It freaked me out at first because they do get slick. We make him hold the hand rail.
Yea, he does both our carpeted stairs to the basement and our slippery, crazy steps to his room. It took a long time for me to be comfortable with it though.

Evan has had free reign of stairs since we moved here last year and proved to be steady. Our previous house did not have them. They are mostly carpet with the bottom four wood. He has always been fairly steady on his feet. I am actually the only one who has fallen down (I take my food photos upstairs and was carrying too much a couple of months ago and tripped). We will have to find gates for them once Claire becomes mobile.

Yes. They are carpet. She just fell down them today though. That was only the second time since living here for a year and half though. She's usually really careful about it.
