I'm not that good in Photoshop. I always end up with electrified colors that look sickly; I can never get a true saturated color. I've tried to use the paint companies' tools with their stock Craftsmans, but they don't allow for the level of detail I'd want to see, and the renderings are pretty awful. I really like the eggplant/lime combo you posted, but I don't know if I'm that brave (and I can't separate my lust for that garden from my feelings about the paint, so I can't be sure)! There are some great purple houses in Berkeley. But they seem to have great house colors, white trim and plastic windows, or muted colors with muted windows. Definitely not as creative as Portland We're driving through portland on our trip, so I will have my camera in-hand for idea collecting.
Try to make it to Ladd's Addition. It's dreamy. The houses and gardens are so photogenic.
Another great place to look for color ideas is New Orleans. If you just google image search (especially uptown or garden district) you can find tons of ideas.
Our house is kind of a light peach, with rust and teal trim. Sounds totally weird but it's cute, and it doesn't stand out because there are tons of colorful houses in our neighborhood.
