If he agrees that he isn't going to work tomorrow, then yeah he should wait till tomorrow to go in. If he thinks he's going to work, then I don't know if I would be able to stop him from going to the ER. I personally wouldn't do it, but DH is a little whiny.
So I'm kind of a bitch, too, but I think he should wait until tomorrow, too. Actually, you know what, I'm not even going to label this, because even if I were the one in his shoes, I would wait. Nothing is going to get him to work tomorrow, so he might as well just take a pain reliever and try to sleep as much as possible until then. If he insists he cannot wait, at least split the difference and go to urgent care.
This factor is not influencing me, but I would not want to be in the position of urging my DH to take the path of least resistance as it relates to his health while my MIL and SIL on the other side.
Also: if I went to the ER for that, I'd probably be there at least 6 hours. And it's probably something viral that's making him feel shitty, if the antibiotics aren't doing much. And then there's the cost on top of that.

I would have waited. Did his throat swab actually come back with strep or did they treat empirically. If they didn't get a positive swab for strep, I suspect its all viral
ERs are for threatened loss of life, limb, or eyesight. Not for strep or pinkeye. And now he's probably going to infect other people who are in the ER for legitimate medical emergencies (or those who treat people with legitimate medical emergencies).
My vote would have been urgent care, if anything, or CVS minute-clinic.
I would lose it if H did that. But mine is the opposite, I have to convince him to go to a doctor when he isn't feeling well. He spent 2 weeks with a cough that did nothing but get worse until he finally went to get meds.
That is ridiculous. At my company, if you are out 3+ days, you need a doctor's note. He should have gone tomorrow, asked the doctor when he could have gone back to work, and gotten the note.
I've had strep about 10 times in my life (though not since having my tonsils out). It sucks, but you can absolutely feel better with OTC meds.

Amen. I would have gone to urgent care or CVS, or waited until tomorrow if those options weren't available.
But, I think long run an adult gets to make the final medical decision for him/herself, and you're not doing yourself any favors setting it up as you vs his mom even if you are right.
I'd just get pinkeye drops from the pharmacy. They're not Rx.
The drops I get in the US for conjunctivitis are Rx. You need to see a doctor in order to get them. Its got an antibiotic in it and you cant get those without a prescription in the US.

well it's still ridiculous to go to the er for pinkeye.
Is he back yet? What did they say? If I were him I would've been frustrated I wasn't feeling better if I already had antibiotics and had strep.... and it can be dangerous untreated... But I would've just complained loudly until Monday morning while attempting to sleep through it.
He just got back. They put him on IV's because he was dehydrated (surprise, I told him that before he left). And he's not allowed to go back to work tomorrow because of his pink eye(like I told him before he left).
He feels magically better. Of course. Can't wait for that $2000 bill to come.
I'm still pissed. And I told him that. So, 7 hours later, he feels better. Meanwhile, I told him this morning that I had 7 things I HAD to get done for our business (leases, meeting with people) that I couldn't do because his throat was sore.
Deep breathes. Not the end of the world I know. It's the principal. And I'm pissed that he listened to his mom over me. That probably is what my pissy-ness stems from.
Edit: Our friend is the one that treated him. I'm going to talk to her and see if it ::REALLY:: warranted an ER visit.
FYI, your friend should NOT give you details of your husband's medical care.
I agree, though, he was being a big baby. My doc says they don't even give antibiotics to adults with pinkeye, just wait it out. :-)
IV fluids really can work wonders when you feel like crap and can't get enough fluids because it hurts to drink. I wish they were easier to get. Not ER worthy though.

This sounds like what they do when someone shows up to the ER who doesn't need to be there, so they don't feel like an ass showing up to the ER and getting NOTHING. "Here. Have some saline. Salt water makes everyone feel better." So you guys will end up paying like $500 for salt water. Actually, you're paying $500 for a lot of really highly trained people to give up their weekend and be there in case you get REALLY sick or injured.
Ordinarily neither of those conditions is really ER worthy, so I would have encouraged a visit to an Urgent Care clinic or a pharmacy clinic. But if neither of those were available I wouldn't have expected him to wait until tomorrow for treatment. Strep really sucks and to get pink eye on top of that if the antibiotics aren't working? Yeah, that's miserable.
