This is a long shot, but GBCN and the previous CN have always provided great sources of ideas and information, so I'll give it a shot.
I'm working with my campus' new teacher team to help integrate new staff to our large high school campus.
I'm planning a family-friendly social for new teachers, their mentors and the families of both groups.
It's planned for a Friday, and I'd like to do appetizers/dinner/drinks at a restaurant before the varsity football game that evening. I'd like the whole event to be friendly and welcoming to teachers and their families, with a spirited, positive vibe and infused with a football theme.
I've already considered offering photo ops with our mascots and a designated seating area at the game. We have mini pompons that I planned to attach to the invitations, and I'd like to make sure the announcer recognizes the group of new teachers and mentors.
I work at a 5A high school in the Houston area, so a varsity football game is quite the production - with drill team, marching band, cheerleaders, drumline and the like. I'd love to hear your suggestions as to how I could make this night memorable and enjoyable for all involved. I'm especially interested in your thoughts about how to keep the kiddos entertained both at the quasi-happy hour and at the game.
I think the ideas you already have are great! I'm thinking back to my first year of teaching... if I had been included in something like this it really would have made a positive impression on me. Sorry, no advice about keeping the children entertained. Kiddo-free here.
