Recommendation for spot cleaning area rug

I noticed a darker spot of my area rug this morning. Since prior to last summer I hadn't had anything carpet related in my house for three years I'm out of the loop. What's the best stuff to spot clean these days? I think the last stuff I used many a moons ago was Resolve.

How big of a spot are we talking? I picked up one of those bissel little green clean machine things on super sale when I first moved into this place (new kittens, new apt, figured it wasn't a bad idea), and it's been a lifesaver...

It's tiny like nickel size.

I use a bit of OxyClean powder with a touch of water kind of a paste and rub it in the spot. Then vaccuum when it dries. Works great.

resolve now makes a mop thingy, think swiffer wet jet, and i loooooove it for my area rugs. i am always too much of a wimp to try the bissel-type products because i don't want the hardwood to be damaged from the water/steam if there isn't a thick pad.
