I should have buried this in the confessions thread, because I'm embarrassed even though I did nothing wrong. And I may DD, so please don't quote.
I was "let go" from my job. They are citing a policy that they say I broke, which I didn't actually break. I got a phone call from a co-worker saying that she had overheard our supervisor talking a few days before about how it would be easier to fire me than deal with me being sick for the next six months of this pregnancy. That's all I'm going to say about it because I've already spoken with HR there and a lawyer. So...there's that.
I do already have a job offer from somewhere else (we actually do have a nursing shortage in this area, thank God). It's for part time, which is what I was thinking about dropping to at work anyway. We're negotiating pay. I obviously won't be eligible for FMLA or STD now.
That is ridiculous. I am sorry you're dealing with this on top of everything else. I hope it turns out to be a blessing in disguise, but it's still shitty.
That really is awful, I'm sorry to hear that. Good for you for jumping on the ball and contacting an attorney and HR! Hopefully they're able to get you some sort of compensation since you're missing out on FMLA now.

Thanks, everyone. I've never even gotten so much as a written warning at work before, so this was really upsetting.
I have a verbal offer from the new place, and DH thinks I should wait until getting it in writing before telling them I'm pregnant. Odds are they'll post my job while I'm on leave and I'd have to essentially reapply anyway, since I won't be eligible for any kind of job protection.
Holy crap - do they have anything that proves you broke the policy? Not that you'd want to stay there, but if they don't have proof that might help you in a lawsuit over the other stuff to prove that it's not about a policy.
So glad you are talking to a lawyer. So many times you hear about people being fired for what seems like illegal reasons but technically the aren't they are just shitty. In your case based on what you said it was totally illegal and shitty.

No, they have no proof. HR said if it came down to a "he said/she said" issue, the termination would stand, apparently that's how they always handle it. They don't know I've retained a lawyer.

I'm so sorry. Is your co-worker willing to go on the record?

She says she will. I hope she sticks to that if needed.
None of this has been good for my anxiety. Or my blood pressure. lol
I would do it before you formally accept the offer. More as, FYI, I'm expecting, and want to negotiate a period of leave now, rather than wait until it gets closer.
They had to know they were asking for a lawsuit by going down this route. I hope they get exactly what they deserve. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.
That's awful. I am glad you have contacted a lawyer. This happened to a friend of mine recently and they ended up settling so it worked out ok but it was still terrible.
