I'm an ultrasound technologist and I always ask my patients. Pretty sure all my co-workers do too. This really should be standard practice. If they DIDN'T ask, I'd mention it if you're worried about it.
I only had a single anatomy scan during both pregnancies, but I warned them at the beginning each time.
This is all I had with C, and as far as I can tell so far this pregnancy will be the same.
My ultrasound is next Thursday, so I'll just be sure to mention to them before they start (and not look at the screen right away). Of course, my H would like to know, so he claims he's going to keep his eyes peeled. Jerk. lol
I did have a tech tell me before starting she always uses a generic he when referring to the baby so not to freak out and assume she'd ruined the surprise. My SIL is a tech and said she does the same thing and that most techs do.
On another message board there was someone who was team green that had an u/s and the tech said he and she was so upset even though the tech tried to tell her she always said he/his as default. She had a girl lol.
We told the tech prior to the ultrasounds. She said "she" once and then said "now let's check your ovaries", which DH heard emphasis on the word your, so we thought girl. Then the doctor came to give the results and said "he looks great" and the tech quickly told him we weren't finding out the sex. Then we were convinced the tech told him to say he because she slipped. We had a boy.
The point of my story, be sure to tell the doctor it if they are reading the results right after (we just saw the on call OB, not my OB), because if the tech hadn't said she, he would have ruined it for us. My regular OB said they don't put it in your file so they don't slip, so she didn't know.
I wasn't team green but my friend is. She's told the tech each time but at her last scan the tech still said "he." Could mean absolutely nothing and the tech may just feel weird saying "it" or "baby" all the time, but she already feels like the baby is a boy so we'll find out soon enough.
I cried at my 41w appointment when my OB used a pronoun for the first time - "he." Well, I cried because there was zero progress at 41w and I didn't want to be induced, but then I also cried because I thought he spoiled the surprise after we were so close to finding out after waiting so long. I had a girl. In hindsight, if I had a boy I probably shouldn't have put much stock into it anyway considering how many patients my OB has and the majority find out before birth, so I bet the use of pronouns is common enough that they may use them interchangeably or may default to one or the other regardless of the actual sex.
All that to say...sure, she could be having a boy. Or a girl.
This is the approach she's taking, but I still think the techs need to be more careful with things like this. The last several ultrasounds I had were at the hospital and even so I told them I knew it was a boy, they still continually said "baby" and never "he."

I've already done this too. At my most recent appointment where we set up the ultrasound, my doctor asked once more, "You're not finding out, right?" so she's aware.
