He's 69 years old and was just laid off from his job. He didn't tell me until we were at a family wedding on Friday night. But he did get a job in "security". He told me applicants had to have combat experience. Ummm, dad, that was in 1969.
Then, I found I my step mom was fired at her job and suspended from applying again for 4 years. I have no idea what she did. She's 58. She just started working at a fast food restaurant with my 18 year old sister.
I worry about them so much. They are constantly at the casino gambling what little money they have away. I deeply fear that they will someday lose their house and end up homeless.
To top it off my 18 year old sister is going away to college. I think she has scholarships, thank god. But I don't know if they cover everything.
I don't know what happened to my dad. He just seems so broken and unmotivated to make his life better. I wish he would also talk to me about these things more.
I do t know what I'm looking for but I'm just so down about how his life has really changed over the past 8 or so years.

I'm so sorry. My dad is similar; he has no steady income, no stable place to live, and he finds a way to be irresponsible with the little money he occasionally gets in.
It is seriously crushing to think about what a disaster it could be at any moment.
I'm so sorry. Is your stepmom in a specialized industry that she can't apply again for another 4 years? Does she have skills that she can transfer to another industry?

I think it has to do with the fact she worked at the casino.
Do you think he would be willing to talk with someone? It sounds like depression is adding into whatever else is going on.
He is the most stubborn man alive. It's very doubtful that he would talk with someone. He doesn't even go to the dr for check ups and he smokes like a chimney.

I'm sorry. Is there an Area Agency on Aging near them that you can call to see what kind of services that they offer?
