We put DD in disposable diapers for the first time for our mini vacation and had two blowouts in three days. Both time it was out the top of the back of the diaper. She's 8 weeks, 11 lbs, and wearing size 1 Target diapers. Size 1 says 8-14 lbs and they seemed the right size. Normal, unlucky, or doing it wrong?
Ebf poop? Maybe try huggies? They have a little flap that kind of contains the up the back blowouts. Certain disposables work better on certain kids. But yeah, I'm a cloth diaper drop out but nothing is better at containing ebf poop than cloth.

Yeah, EBF poop. DW is now convinced cloth diapers are magical.
get a prefold cover and put it over the disposable. even if the poop escapes the disposable it won't get beyond the cover. if it gets messy, rinse it off. should probably have two covers for traveling, actually. one on, one at the ready in case the first needs a bath
We had a lot of poop blow out issues when using sposies pre-solids. Sometimes we put a flip cover over a sposie to contain it. The problem went away with solids.

i am a big fan of bummis and rumarooz.
This is what we do when we use disposables. I would also go up a size.
At that age, DD was more prone to blowouts if she was wearing a onsie. I would try the next size or a different brand. DD never fit the weight ranges of the diapers because she was a tall skinny baby.
I do think she could be ready for size 2 but I was an up & up lover with DD1and this time around I swear we had leaks or blowouts like half the time we used them. Switched back to Pampers with very rarely an issue.
I absolutely hate Target diapers. His only blowouts/leaks have been while wearing them. We have had no blowouts or leaks with Pampers, and we usually don't size up until he's at the max weight for the current size.
Target diapers are the worst. Constant blowouts. Luvs made DS's skin get a little rash. Huggies or Pampers work best for him, but as others said, size up.
We always had to size up a few pounds early compared to what the recommended lbs were.
And the brand can be an issue too. I don't know why, but different brands work better on different babies. Like Pampers were great for us. As long as we sized up, we were good. But Huggies? They did not work for us at all. Always leaked, always had a blowout.
The recommended weights on diaper packages have never made sense to me. We always need to size up before hitting the bottom of the stated range. I would try a size 2 in your case.
Maybe try a different brand. I didn't start using the target diapers until he was older. I used pamper swaddlers in the beginning until he was big enough for our cloth diapers. They worked great for him.
My kid blows out of all the disposables. And his in a 4 but maybe only 18 or 19lbs, so not even to the bottom range of 4s so I feel like sizing up would be insane. Huggies and Pampers do it. I have some Honest diapers to try.
I have a bunch of cloth diapers, but I just can't. My life is too overwhelming without adding another chore I have to do every day.

My baby had huge explosions out of Pampers when she was that young.. Luvs actually held it all in. As she aged, I switched back to Pampers cause they hold a lot more pee, but occasionally use Luvs too. Go ahead and try out the size 2 as well.
