Our Xbox 360 is 4 years old. Last night, my H got the red ring of death while trying to play his NCAA game. We use it a lot to watch Netflix, too. He unplugged it for 24 hours, and we just plugged it back in and it seemed to start up great. After 5 minutes of attempting to load Netflix, it froze and gave the red ring again. Please tell me there is something else I can try before giving up and buying a new system.
S/N: IF we do end up buying a new system, what do you recommend? All of H's games are for the 360, but we mostly use it for Netflix and Youtube.
You could try replacing the heat sink if you don't mind taking the console apart but it may not be worth the effort.
If you do upgrade - I'd look at the exclusive titles for each system and pick based on that, though if you're concerned about being able to play your existing games the Xbox One is supposed to gain backwards compatibility this fall. Netflix/Youtube can be made to work with pretty much any system.

I agree with this. We upgraded to an XBox One after going through a few XBox systems but PS4 had exclusive titles we also wanted to play so we bought that later. I can't recommend one or the other and would go based off the exclusive titles you are interested in.
I informed xbox, they sent me a shipping box, I sent it to them and paid 100 bucks (this was way before xbox one came out), and they sent me a new refurbished unit.
