I have my differences with John Kasich over SB5, an anti-collective bargaining effort in Ohio that was passed in the legislature, signed by Kasich, then repealed by the voters. But it seems like he is one of the few candidates with momentum, especially in New Hampshire.
There have been two articles with wide coverage in our local papers: one where Kasich spoke positively about immigrants and the contribution they make to society (all immigrants, not just ones legally in the country), and the other saying that Medicaid in Ohio did not cost as much as previously predicted. This is a big deal because Kasich expanded Medicaid because of the ACA.
Now this article. It's too long for me to cut and paste, but here's the link.
I was most impressed with him during the Rep debate, especially his views on prison rehabilitation. But I think he has too many moderate like views to be the R nominee.
Yeah. I think he's the right guy in the wrong year. If this were 2012, he'd be a much better choice than Romney. So while I agree that he's going to siphon off Jeb!'s supporters, it's not going to be enough. This year is all about that base.
This is what scares me about Kasich. I'm afraid he'll get the nomination and be the "moderate compromise," whereas one of the more obvious wingnuts being the candidate will make for a clearer choice and--I hope--easier run for the Democratic candidate.
