My parents are generously taking our entire immediate family to Hawaii next year. My mom is researching places to stay and is leaning towards a villa at Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu. I also suggested that she look into AirBnB. She said that it would be nice to be connected to a resort so we have a great pool and close beach access, which are most important to all of us.
Does anyone have suggestions on other resorts/locations that have space to fit 10 people (7 adults and 3 kids). Thanks!
Turtle Bay is great and I've stayed in the villas there twice, but it's a little isolated. I used to live on Oahu and for a big group with different ages I think it's perfect, but I'd just want to be closer to town and a wider variety of food and activity options. There are a lot of gorgeous houses with pools that could accommodate a group that size. If you want to be close to Honolulu without being in the city, Diamond Head, Hawaii Kai, and Kahala are all nice neighborhoods. Another option would be Kailua or Lanikai, which I think are the most beautiful beaches on the island.

I don't' know anything about Hawaii but I wouldn't throw away the idea of an Airbnb not having pool access. I stayed at a condo in St. Marteen that had beach access and two pools. It was one of the best places we've ever stayed.
Look through all of the different sites I found mine through flip key on trip advisor.
We've rented a house through www.lanikailuabeachrentals.com before and may use them for an upcoming big family trip. Lots of the houses have pools. I personally don't miss resort amenities in HI so this works well for us. We love the Kailua/Lanikai location. Beautiful drive too and from Honolulu if you want to go in for dinner yet nice beaches right there and plenty to do close by. We particularly like doing the drive up to the north shore along the coast.
Also, I've found vrbo.com is still more heavily used for Hawaii than airbnb.com. Tons of the houses on the east side of Oahu have pools and depending on the exact location, you can walk to the beach.
