I started Retin A two weeks ago for some awesome adult acne that popped up around Christmas. I use it nightly and Clindamycin topical in the morning.
The acne is clearing up. Yay! The extreme burning every time I try to put on a moisturizer? Boo. Anyone been through this routine and found a moisturizer that works for them that doesn't feel like they are applying hot pokers to their face?
I am also seeing what SPF and sunscreen Retin A users are applying. I wish I could just stay out of the sun, but that isn't an option, so I am trying to be prepared.
I'm sure there are less $$$ options if you google oil facial moisturizers.
I've also been washing my face lately with Shu Uemura cleansing oil, and it's amazing. It doesn't clog my skin at all, and it leaves my face perfectly moisturized.
I use Atralin, which is another version of Retin-A, but in a more emollient base to prevent drying. Oil products seem to work really well with retinoids to prevent burning & peeling.
For daily moisturizer with SPF, my derm recommends CeraVe AM. It's SPF 30, and pretty sensitive-skin friendly.
i would use the retin-a every other night. i have oily but sensitive skin and every night is a little much for me. i use eucerin everyday protection moisturizer. it's an spf 30.
Have you started using Retin-A gradually? You may want to use it half as often (or even less than that) while you're still adjusting.
I also agree with this. After a few weeks of use, my skin had a pretty extreme freak out to the Retin-A and turned really, really red. For a few days before that, I had the burning issue with moisturizer, but didn't think much of it since I'd been using it for a few weeks with no issue except peeling. You may want to use it less often and build up to more regular use.
Kore - I have never used a facial oil. I will have to check these out.
GoDawgs - I use a BB cream (Two Faced), but I don't feel like that's enough. I am in the sun for 10-12 hours at a time on the weekends.
+v+ - I have normally oily skin. It isn't anymore! I did not start gradually. I wasn't told to... I will definitely try that though. My normal skincare routine, that I discussed with my dermatologist, is washing with philosophy Purity made simple, and then applying their Hope in a Bottle for acne treatment. I stopped the Hope in a Bottle last week because it burned and started using cetaphil which is better, but still burns.
dcannie - Again, I wasn't told I could use it not every day. Ugh. I feel stupid.
Someone on the F&B board once recommended this, and I may try it. Apparently you only need a few drops to cover your entire face and it works well under makeup.
