Anyone following the SF sheriff thing?

Short version: Sheriff Mirkarimi was accused/charged with domestic violence earlier this year. In March he plead guilty to a lesser charge and was suspended from his position after that. The mayor is trying to have him removed from the position. Dude still wants to keep his job, which is crazy to me.
