This is the kind of thing that almost literally makes me sick about this country and many of the people in it. You see or read about people getting shot to death on live television, and it makes you want to buy a gun? I felt the same way after Sandy Hook, where there was a huge surge in people buying AR-15s - because apparently hearing that small kids got murdered with a particular weapon makes you *really* want to get yourself one. These people are sick.
Within the 24-hour period after the murder of two WDBJ-TV staffers in Virginia, there were still places in the US where people were busier finding a place to buy a gun than they were understanding America's record on gun violence. Below is a map of those searches, captured by Google News Lab, of "gun shops" (red) or "gun control" (blue), according to metropolitan areas.
Do you think it's out of fear? A) fear of another shooter ? (Ridiculous because unless your gun is strapped to your hand which is ridiculous and dangerous how can you stop a surprise shooting while working?) B) fear of tougher gun laws?

I think it's out of misplaced vigilantism. "If I were there I could have stopped him!"
Except the ar-15. I think that was out of fear it would be banned.
