I would make an appointment for Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. If he is still having a hard time, I would take him and see what they say (a busy practice wilt mind if you cancel if all is well, I have found, as long as you do it with enough time for them to fit in another sick kid). My son doesn't have asthma, but he has severe allergies, and even though he should have outgrown it, still gets the croup badly enough to land in the ER, if he doesn't get steroids and breathing treatments. Albuteral doesn't help with the croup, since it is a swelling of the airway, but it can help with the underlying cold. Steroids help him, so if we are planning to travel, I plan to get them before he has a crisis. You can also look into urgent cares and Er's in the area you are traveling to and have the locations and hours in your back pocket. At 2am on Saturday night, it doesn't much matter if you are home or not, just that you can get care.
If I waited until DS was perfectly healthy, we would never go anywhere in spring or fall, including school. He seldom has a fever, just seal cough at night and snot about days. Like asthma, he is not a danger to others. Fans do make him worse though (stir up dust and blow around allergens).

Coming from someone who deals with the same thing, I'd go. Last vacation, DS1's breathing was so bad that DH had to run out to a 24 hour pharmacy for oral steroids and we still had tons of fun. We have to take DS1's nebulizer with us every time we travel so it's just become the norm.
Make sure you have enough albuterol for the whole trip. Have the pedi's number handy in case anything changes. Know where the nearest pharmacy, urgent care and ER are. Then go and have fun!
When my asthma is flaring this time of year, the heat and humidity make it AWFUL. I don't even run errands to avoid going outside with all the allergens. I would probably skip just because of how important it is for me to stay in a closed house when my asthma is flaring. It usually takes me a good two weeks to get it under control.
