My MIL says this one goes down way to smooth! DH and I love it.
1 Bottle red wine divided (1.5 Liter) 3 tbsp brandy 3 tbsp Triple Sec or any orange flavored liqueur 1/3 cup sugar 2/3 cup orange juice 2 tbsp lime juice 2 tbsp lemon juice 5 whole cloves 3 whole allspice 1 cinnamon stick 2 cups sparkling water (I've used 7up as well) 8 orange wedges 5 lemon slices 5 lime slices
combine 1/2 cup wine, brandy, triple sec and sugar in a small bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir to disolve sugar. Add to large pitcher. Add remaining ingredients and chill for at least 2 hours. If you don't want the fruit to be really bitter, you can add it when served as a garnish.
1 bottle (750ml) red wine - I usually use syrah or malbec 1 cup Bacardi Razz (any other fruit-flavored rum or vodka works too) 1 cup cranberry juice 1 can lemon-lime soda (Sprite, 7Up, etc. - diet or regular are fine) 1 diced apple (red or green apples are fine) 1 diced pear 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries 1 sliced lime
You can use different fruits if you prefer. Pretty much anything works, as long as it's fresh fruit and not frozen/canned. Frozen/canned fruits don't float, they just sink to the bottom of the sangria pitcher.
If you don't like Sprite or don't have it on hand, ginger ale works too.
If you prefer white wine, a good combination is:
1 bottle (750ml) white wine - I usually use sauvignon blanc 1 cup triple sec (or substitute brandy) 1 cup white grape juice 1 can lemon-lime soda (Sprite/7Up) 1 diced green apple 1 diced peach 1 cup green grapes 1 sliced lime
1 bottle sauvignon blanc 1 bottle beaujolais or pinot noir 1 orange sliced 1 lemon sliced 1 cup sugar 1 shot of brandy
Stir all of the above until the sugar dissolves. Refrigerate at least 8 hours, but preferably overnight.
Prior to serving, stir in additional fruits of your liking. I always go with grapes and strawberries. It tastes so smooth that you don't even realize how much the alcohol is hitting you.

Perfect timing. The first one is similar to what I've done in the past, although I don't think I use as many spices (I save that for mulled wine). I much prefer the less sweet soda water to 7up.
The only thing I've modified from traditional sangrias is that I add a bit of vanilla extract. It was a flavor I tasted in a sangria in Korea (of all places), and it was delightful.

The easiest and best sangria I've had (but watch out, it will get you drunk!) - one bottle red or white wine, one cup rum, 1/2 cup triple sec. Add fruit of your choice and serve over ice.

2 cups OJ 1 bottle red wine 1 orange, sliced 2 peaches, peeled and sliced 1 lemon, sliced confectioner's sugar club soda
Mix together the oj, red wine, orange, peaches, and lemon and refrigerate 4-6 hours. Add confectioners sugar to taste, until it's sweet enough. Add a splash of club soda and serve over ice.
