C is 8 1/2 months and has been taking 2 naps for over 1 month now. His first nap is generally decent but his second nap is variable. He ranges anywhere from 30-90 min for that nap. Until 4 days ago he was able to sustain a 2 nap schedule regardless of his second nap. The past 4 days (with the exception of yesterday, when I gave him Tylenol to see if his teeth were bothering him) his second nap isn't long enough to get him to bedtime so I've been doing 3 nap which just seems to not help (pushes bedtime and results in earlier wakeup).
Did anyone have this issue of having to go back to 3 naps? His second nap today was only 21 min and he woke up screaming. Tried to get him back to sleep but he was just fighting it (and I gave him Motrin before his nap). Is it a regression thing? Teeth? Something else? I'm lost on what to do...just accept we're back to 3 naps for now or put to bed super early (before 5:45/6).

I don't have a solution but we did end up going back to three naps for a short time when L started flirting with "STTN" at 12ish months. He was sleeping like 7-4:30 so was napping about 8-9, 12:30-1:30, and often needed a cat nap at 4:00 or 4:30. It only lasted for a few days and then he was back to two (around 9-10 and 2-3) before transitioning to one nap around 15 months. No real advice but know that it's normal for them to change things up right when you think you've got it figured out.

I would probably try bed super early - DD went to bed early for a while - around 6,sometimes 6:30 I think until she was around that age. He may push it back on his own as he continues to adjust to his own schedule.
I would try early bedtime. DD went to bed at around 6:30 for awhile and has gradually pushed bedtime back to 7:30. She also sometimes sleeps in more when she goes to bed earlier.
I think 6 is a perfectly acceptable bedtime for an 8 month old!
thanks ladies! He's been going to bed around 6:30, sometimes earlier. His second nap today was only 21 min and ended at 1:35 so even 6p would have been a stretch. DH already feels like anything before 6:30 is too early so I'm hesitant.
I do agree that 6 isn't all that early, especially when he's waking at 5:30/6:30 every day. He def has his own clock/schedule.
I did a 3rd nap and he's sleeping really long for him (40 min when this nap is usually no more than 25...he's still sleeping too). I know he's tired and cranky...think it's a milestone (or teething) thing and hope it passes quickly and he's back to being his happy self!
If you do a 3rd nap I'd maybe try to keep it short and wake him. Otherwise he'll pry be up later which is up to you. Mine don't go to bed till 8 but they sleep all night till 730.

yeah, he woke as soon as I posted . I figured that if he needed the sleep then we were already doing a later bedtime anyways so I went with it. He'll go down around 7:30 tonight and likely be up by 6.
