I don't think I've had it, and I'm from CT and have lived in the Northeast my whole life.
It sounds like a girl scout project or something. It would probably go well with the butter we made by shaking a jar of cream for an entire troop meeting. lol
It's very similar to banana bread, carrot cake, etc. Sweet, not savory. More of a side or even desert if you get it with raisins.
Basically - it's just sold in what it has been baked in, vs. being removed like traditional bread and placed in a bag. Store bought banana breads and other sweat breads are usually told in disposable foil baking pans. Very similar concept.

I'm also in CT, but grew up in Maine. I don't think I've ever seen it in CT. I think it's a very "far north" thing.

Yeah, I lived in Boston for 4 years before I moved to NYC, so that is probably where I saw it.
I don't go here but I saw "bread in a can" on the front page and I knew what you were talking about. I could eat that whole can. Slice it up, toast it, slather it with cream cheese and scarf. It may be a northeast thing, not east coast. I'm in Boston.
ETA: and no one will know wth she's asking for if she asks for "bread in a can." It's "brown bread."

My mother was raised outside of Boston so I think that's why I'm familiar with it - I was raised in upstate NY but have found this in a Colorado grocery store. And it is yummy!

Ditto MixedBerryJam- my Boston relatives served that on the regular... I am not a huge fan but my sister loves it and will buy it when up there, to bring home like a delicacy.
