Met with the ped today to look into my daughters heart murmur (she's 14 months). First of all, I really liked him. I had heard mixed reviews and I'm glad i listened to rugbywife and gave him a chance.
He did a chest x-Ray and is probably sending us now to a cardiologist for her murmur. I'm a bit nervous but the pedi was so good and told me that it's probably going to fine.
It posted before I was ready lol. Wanted to ask if anyone else sees a cardiologist for their kids heart? Any good stories would be nice to hear!
We did for DD2. The cardiologist was great and it ended up being an innocent murmur that will close on its own but the actual appointment was a mess. DD did NOT want the stickers and wires attached that they needed for the EKG and she was screaming and crying so much that they couldn't do the echocardiogram. We tried for about 45 minutes to get her to calm down and she refused. They rescheduled us and told us to give her benadryl about 30 minutes before her appointment. She still cried for a while the second time but eventually fell asleep and the cardiologist went on stealth mode and tip-toed into the room and did the echo in near silence. I was pretty impressed with his skill and quietness. He told us right then that everything looked good and I appreciated not having to wait for those results.
No advice, but positive anecdote - I was born with a hole in my heart/murmur, which completely resolved itself by the time I was a teenager. Never caused any trouble.
Ditto. most heart murmurs are nothing problematic and completely resolve themselves.
That said, I would still be nervous and anxious if it was my child every mom is.
DD's pedi heard a heart murmur at every checkup for 5 years. We finally saw a cardiologist this summer. He listened to her heart for 1 minute, declared it a completely innocent murmur and we never have to go back.
My sister had a myriad of problems at birth and after. Heart murmur was one of them. She is currently a thriving 30 year old. She had to see a cardiologist yearly for most of her life. Her murmur went away when she became more into running long distances in college/just after. She still sees a cardio on a semi regular basis just to make sure it doesn't come back.
Yep, DS had(has?) a heart murmur his pedi discovered at his newborn appt. He sent us to a cardiologist he did an EEG and an ultrasound, and declared it an innocent murmur.

This is me! If I had the heart murmur i would be all "whatever". But when it's your BABY it's like OMG. Plus the fact that the ped wants us to keep coming back (which is not common in Canada) and the referral to the cardiologist as well freaks me out.

Something like 95% of heart murmurs are innocent, which I know does nothing to make you feel better. DD has one, and we were told she would probably outgrow it. When it was still there at her 2 year check up, they sent us to a cardiologist for some testing. $1400 later, they said she's fine.
I wouldn't read too much into the follow up or the cardiologist federal. A couple of my friends have infants with medical issues and i am amazed at how quickly the doctors and referrals are on it. it sure as hell doesn't happen that fast for adults in Canada!

Chances are it will be nothing to worry about!
We had a similar experience. G's was found in the hospital where they did an echo. We followed up with a pedi cardiologist at 3 months and then again at 9 months. He had echos at both. As his heart grows, the hole is becoming proportionally smaller to the overall size of his heart. The tech who did the echos at the cardi's office was mum on the findings, but the cardi reviewed the results with us before we left. He said it's nothing to worry about and shouldn't cause any problems down the road. We go back again at 2 years old to have it checked again.
