Is anyone getting guff on progesterone Supps lately? I got an Rx from my OB after my second loss last December, and I basically asked straight up because I'd had spotting with both losses, and I had a friend who yadda yadda. She said no problem, it may not help, but it won't hurt. My LP sucks and was only 8 days the last two cycles, so I talked to the NP who did my mid-cycle check this time, and she said absolutely, she'd take progesterone.
So, I made it to 11dpiui now and called to get betas and ask for a progesterone check too, and the nurse was short with me and said they don't do them. Ugh! Thank goodness I still had a refill left, because I was almost out.
What do you guys think? All I ever hear about is people taking supplements, but I'm not sure if that's IVF only? This is stressful. Would you keep taking them?

For the clomid IUIs I did with my RE, I didn't take progesterone. If I had made it to retrieval and transfer, I would have been prescribed PIO. For my IUI that was from the converted the IVF attempt, I was prescribed suppositories.
I have no previous loss history (or successful pregnancy history, of course). With previous losses, I'd push for progesterone in the can't hurt / might help mindset.
I was on progesterone suppositories with both my IUIs and IVF. But I have a history of low progesterone, so that's why I was always on them with treatment.
But in your situation with previous losses, I think I would push for them. It may or may not make a difference, but it can't hurt to be on them.
Ugh, how stressful. Is this an OB office or RE? I took prometrium orally after I ovulated every cycle (treatment or not) due to short LP. Had the cycles been successful, I would've stayed on the progesterone through first tri. Point being, in my experience it isn't only used for IVF cycles. I haaaaate being a squeaky wheel, but I'd push this given your loss history. It isn't going to hurt anything and can only help. Keep us updated!
Thanks so much for validating my feelings, ladies! My progesterone has never even been checked, which is why I was so annoyed they wouldn't order a stupid test. Luckily, I just picked up the refill that my OB had given me way back when, and I'm sure she'd refill again if the pregnancy continues, so I've got about 75 pills for now. This was the RE. I'm just pissed that he was cool about it a few months ago, and very down on it now.

I had to really insist on Monday that they check my progesterone. The nurse was kind of short with me too. However, my doctor did call in a supplement prescription based on my bloodwork so I'm glad I insisted. The nurse told me they only test progesterone If someone has a miscarriage first.
I asked for a progesterone check when they did my bloodwork yesterday. I had to do an extra shot of Ovidrel with my last IUI due to low progesterone so I just wanted to make sure it was okay this time. We'll see if they prescribe me anything, but my OB didn't seem concerned.
Thanks, guys! I'm just annoyed that their messaging on it changed so much, and also isn't consistent, since the NP was very supportive of me taking it to extend my LP. My RE was so dismissive at the IUI, saying that it wouldn't prevent a miscarriage. I said I wasn't expecting it to, but I hoped it would extend my LP enough to permit implantation, if we were lucky enough to get an egg to fertilize. Grr.

I was told there was no real benefit to taking it with an IUI. Because I was definitely ovulating and because I released more than one egg, my progesterone would naturally be on the higher side without supplementation. And that was true. However, my level was still tested every time. They said it was just to be sure I had ovulated, but I wonder if they would have prescribed supplements if it had been on the lower side.

Interesting...the 8 day LP cycles weren't IUI, just natural, so maybe it would have been longer anyway. Hmm.
