I'm a tiny bit bummed that when they announce my name at graduation tomorrow it will be my "MarriedName". Huh. I got married in the middle of my MBA, so I really wish I could use both.
I feel like I need to remind my parents that they should listen for that instead of my maiden name, even though they probably totally expect to hear my married name. Maybe I should've hyphenated. Oh well.
On my degree it will say First Maiden Married though, so that's good.
Can't you contact the school and have them change it?
I only changed it there in the first place because I went to China for that class and I wanted to make sure my passport matched all my school docs in case I was taken as a political prisoner...or something. lol
I have to hand the speaker a card with my name on it, and there's a place to write my name phonetically. I'm tempted to write it out there, but since my name is easy I think he'll just look at the top line where it's printed as just my married name.
It doesn't really matter. I was just surprised that I felt that way.
I wonder if it's weird to miss your maiden name. My married name is ok, a bit generic but it's not like my maiden name was all that exotic to begin with. It just has a huge weight with it. "Oh, that figures. You're a MaidenName." Or "Boardgames and beer, that's what MarriedName's do!"
Now I just made my family sound like a bunch of tools.

I miss my maiden name...hence my online name of Duff. I am not a fan of my married name, but oh well, it's done. I SO want to change it to my MIL's maiden name though...D'Lessio. I think it's so pretty.

I don't miss my maiden name necessarily. I miss people only using my first name though. I use to have an intimidating last name so people wouldn't attempt it. Now it is a short 'easy' name so ppl always use it.. And always fuck it up.
I definitely miss my maiden name. It flowed with my first name much better. So much so that I debated going by my middle name when my last name changed.
You are still you and still have the amazing accomplishments.. No matter what name it is!
But ditto calling and asking for a change if it means a lot to you.
:Y:
I was sad to part with my maiden name. Not only because of the attachment to my family and history, but mainly because I was the only Sapphire MaidenName on FB (maybe the only one alive in the world). But now with my MarriedName, I am one of like 8 Sapphire MarriedNames on FB. But I think they're all out from another country.
I don't necessarily think it "flows" better, but it's much easier for people to understand when I introduce myself, which is beneficial in my new career.
I miss mine for the fact that it was an easy name (that only once in awhile got screwd up) to one that everyone seems to mess up. People seem to have a problem with two i's and they end up a) pronoucning it wrong and b) spelling it wrong.
Though I agree with Ala, you have still made amazing accomplishments!!
It's funny, my maiden name is only 4 letters and people pronounced it wrong all the time. I have no idea why (I mean where do they can a long "a" sound?!).

Wow. So many people changed their names. I didn't. It really wasn't ever an option for me. My kick-ass feminist husband is totally find with it. Now that all our friends are getting married though they are all changing their names. I only have one other friend that didn't change hers.

I am glad that I went with married last name because my maiden name always got mispronounced, etc. Married name is easy to pronounce but there is a gazillion ways to spell it so I always have to spell it for people. That gets annoying too at times.

Aw, I understand the feeling of missing your maiden name. I just had this conversation with MH a few days ago and how sometimes I wish I would've kept it. I went back and forth on whether or not to change it to MH's last name, but now it's a done deal. Sigh.
Regardless of what you're called at graduation, congratulations! That's a big accomplishment.
