I have severely oily skin and I am so sick of looking shiny. I get shiny from simply sitting at my desk. I touch up with powder throughout the day, but again, it doesn't seem to matter. I've tried a few primers with no luck...it's like I didn't even put on a primer.
Any suggestions? I'm willing to spend extra $$$ for a product that really delivers.
I feel you. I am so so so oily. What works for me is I do not moisturize or prime me skin before foundation. I don't need it. Even primers meant for oily skin make my skin slick and slippery and then I will melt.
I like: MAC Studio Fix fluid, L'Oreal Infallible pro-matte foundation, and Chanel Double Perfect fluid foundation. I always set the foundation with a powder. Sometimes I set it with MAC Studio Fix powder foundation if I want extra coverage or I use (and love) NYX HD Finishing Powder (it's white) which is silica and absorbs oil.
I spray my face with MAC Fix+ to help all the powders look seemless and when that dries I use Urban Decay de-slick spray. I also use tons of blotting papers.
I've had a lot of success applying a thin layer of powder over my primer, then applying my foundation, then another thin layer of powder. Hourglass Mineral Veil and Immaculate foundation are my HG skin combo. I generally can go 6+ hours without needing to touch up my makeup using this routine/product combo.
I've got super oily skin as well. I've been doing what nsl does and putting a tiny amount of powder over my primer, then applying foundation. After I set that with powder, I use Nyx matte finish setting spray.

Nothing is HG but I have oil slick skin and I use: Super light moisturizer. Good primer (recently Hourglass or Smashbox) Buxom foundation. MUFE Step 2 Mist&Fix Setting powder. Bronzer and blush UD All Nighter Setting Spray - this is what I've noticed helps the most!
I've been getting better results from putting powder on before foundation. I also add a bit after. I still need at least one blotting paper during the day but it's getting better. UD Nakid Skin foundation is the least oily that I've tried so far it was actually a little on the dry side if I don't use a little moisturizer underneath. Granted I haven't tried too many foundations yet.
I've found that my problem is worse depending on the lack of moisturizer or the wrong moisturizer. I do better with powder foundations than cream or liquid. I am also less oily when I use Mally face defender and UD Setting spray.
I tried doing a primer first, powder over it, and then continuing with my regular foundation routine. I feel pretty matte so far, there is definitely an improvement from how my face would normally look 4-5 hours into wearing makeup.

MAC msf natural. Powder foundations work better on me. I set it with fix+ if I feel it looks too powdery, but I don't think it actually does. I love the finish. It's natural but better.
