I have been lurking forever, but have finally started posting more, so I wanted to introduce myself. I figure this might keep my other posts shorter, too, since I won't have too include as much back-story.
So hi. I'm Laura. I teach English at a community college, and DH is a full-time student. He is studying sustainable community development. We are crazy liberals with serious hippie leanings living in deep east Texas. It's funny sometimes, and sometimes just sad
Last October we were given temporary custody of my nephew, who is now 2.5. Although nothing is set yet, it looks like it will be permanent, and we hope to be able to adopt him as soon as the end of the year or beginning of next year. I am 38 and we have no other kids, so this has been an adjustment, to say the least.
I have been around the knot/nest/proboards forever, but have always been a creepy lurker, so I feel like I "know" many of you. I am glad the sub board is here now, since I have a feeling my kid questions are just starting!

I mostly lurk too but welcome. I am sure it was an adjustment for you both but it was probably better that you got him so young. We are raising our nieces who are now 13 and 18. We got them 3 years ago. It has actually worked put pretty well and they are doing well but if we had gotten them sooner (we tried 3 years earlier) they would have been much better off, especially education wise. They are doing pretty well considering but they missed a lot of school and have parents who didn't care about school at all. Plus they were exposed to a lot of stuff they should not have. Kudos to you both for taking him in
